Constant Diarrhea

What can I do?
Caseymacd - Depends on the possible cause. Have you taken a lot of antibiotics? Have you seen a gastroenterologist? (They will probably want to do some tests, including a colonoscopy...which, although a nuisance, is done under anesthesia, and is not difficult or painful.) If there is no physical cause for the diarrhea, you might be given the diagnosis of IBS. If that is the case, then you could benefit greatly by taking probiotics, adding a daily soluble fiber supplement, and changing your diet. For help with IBS, go to www.helpforibs.com and you'll find lots of good info. Good luck!
Coolcatt - I have never had this problem but read A LOT about health issues. I read some time ago about Coconut Macaroons helping to stop diarrhea. I have told several friends to try this in the last 2 or 3 years and they all say it made a huge difference! The usual "dose" is two macaroons in the morning. I hope this helps you and it certainly tastes good anyway. You may want to try the website www.coconut-info.com . I think this is where I read that coconut is a good antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory. Maybe that is why it works. Good luck!
Stardustwoman - My mother had diarrhea and at first they thought in was gairdia. But we had never left the country or drank out of a stream. but they were so sure, they put her on FLAGYL anyway, and ended up in the hospital for 12 days because she was so dehydrated and extremely low on electrolites. Try the B.R.A.T diet: Bread, Rice, Apples, & Toast. And FIBER!! Also, keep up your electrolites: drink LOTS OF WATER, Gatorade or even Pediacure(?) But: avoid juices or anything with sucrose/sugar, because sugars can actually GIVE you diarrhea! Remember, no one ever died of diarrhea, but they have died of dehydration. In the hospital, they did the sygmoidoscopy AND a colonoscopy on mom and found some infection, so they put her on the antibiotic CYPRO/CIPRO(?), and immediately the green diarrhea AND the odor went away!
When she was finally released, she started drinking metamuscil every day, and now she's fine. (Until you "get to the bottom" of this, avoid fruits & juices because of the sugars) ...One more thing: the colonoscopy puts you at ease about other things!
GOOD LUCK!!
