Digitek Recall
Posted over a year ago
Why is my pharmacy telling me there is a recall of my digitek tablets? They have temporarily given me some Lanoxin until the digitek I have is deemed OK.
Sunlori - Some of the pills have a double dosage in them making them dangerous to use. Google "digitek recall."
Loesher - My husband takes digitek and has for a long time, but in the last couple of weeks he has been sick and has diarreha. Can this be attributed ti digitek?
Djcinaz - I take digitek for tachycardia. This last week I was sick with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. I couldn't figure out why, and it would come and go. Saturday my pharmicist called me and told me there could be double strength. I ended up in a hospital overnight and they said my level was high. The hospital cardiologist told me to stop the digitek (replaced with Lanoxin by my pharmacy) till further bloodtests, and gave me a script for Metoprolol.
Top036 - My mother had been taking the med and had been c/o heart fluttering, increased memory laspe and fatigue. for about a month. Anybody else having these symptoms.
Vickiisom - my husband takes digitek once a day. But for the last 4 weeks he has been very short winded, sometimes to the point of setting up to sleep. But after the water pills he gets better, and he is not like this all the time.Is this just the CHF,or would this be a side effect of this medication. Anyone else notice this. vic.
Djcinaz - I have found out that the pills that are double strength are thicker than the regular ones. The drug company, Actavis Totowa is not sure how many lots are effected, and are doing a full recall. So if your tablets look normal size, they probably are not some of the lot of double strength.
Fdpugh - Tablet size uniformity is not a safe method of determining dosage. Most of the tablet material is inert filler meant to hold the drug formulation. Do NOT attempt to determine whether your drug tablets are double dose or not based on their size or shape.
Waltmi - They give you a number to call but it never answers or just says to call back another time due to hight call volume. They don't look prepared to handle a recall.
Shelia_10 - I have been taking digitek for about 10 years. Laterly I have been feeling fatigue and nurmerous other complaints. I've been trying to figure out what was going on with me. I am at work today and I am feeling drained. Help I need to know what is going on. What should I do about the medicine.
Lilypaddy - Oh my gosh, could this be the problem? My Mother is 78 takes digiteck. She has been going steadily down hill for the past few weeks. Her memory loss and fatigue is so bad that my sister has taken her to a neurologist and she is scheduled for a cat-scan tomorrow. She has been retaining water, she is having a hard time breathing and she is seeing and hearing people who aren't there. Is sleeps all the time and can't seem to wake up. We thought it might be small strokes, but the doctors have said no and want to do more tests. The pharmacy called my sister a couple of hours a go to tell her about the recall and they are giving her lanoxin insead. I've been researching this drug recall, and I think we may have found what the problem is.

Elfredos - The prescription heart medicine, Digitek has been recalled because some of the tablets contain twice the amount of the active ingredient. There have been 11 people to get sick from taking this medicine. There are no reports of any deaths.
Wylygt - My mother has been taking digoxin (generic digitek) ordered from Medco. She had extreme vomiting last night. Her PCP sent her to the lab for a digoxin blood test. We are waiting for the results.
Penjanluc - I have been feeling ill for the past month or so.......feeling fatigued, shorter of breath, and some fluild retention even on my diuretic. I too take digitek, my pharmacist called to tell me of the recall........wonder if this is what was making me sick as well
Spreckiecat - my husband has been taking digitek. he was rushed to the hospital due to shortness of breath, sleeping day & night, unable to eat, and total confusion. he is still in serious condition and now must go to rehab before he can be on his own. isn't it great that medication given to help us can destroy our life.
Fdpugh - Generic versions of digoxin are not supposed to be affected by this, however that does not preclude anyone from having adverse reactions, or adverse drug interactions for any number of other reasons. Patients with multiple physicians often have prescriptions with adverse interactions without knowing about it until they feel the side effects. This is why it is important to be open with your physician(s) about any medications you are taking OTC or have been prescribed.

Actavis Totowa (formerly known as Amide Pharmaceutical, Inc.) recalls all lots of Bertek and UDL Laboratories Digitek (digoxin tablets, USP) as a precaution
Morristown, NJ, 25 April, 2008 - Actavis Totowa LLC, a United States manufacturing division of the international generic pharmaceutical company Actavis Group, is initiating a Class 1 nationwide recall of Digitek (digoxin tablets, USP, all strengths) for oral use. The products are distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. under a "Bertek" label and by UDL Laboratories, Inc. under a "UDL" label.
The voluntary all-lot recall is due to the possibility that tablets with double the appropriate thickness may have been commercially released. These tablets may contain twice the approved level of active ingredient than is appropriate.
Digitek is used to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms. The existence of double-strength tablets poses a risk of digitalis toxicity in patients with renal failure. Digitalis toxicity can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, low blood pressure, cardiac instability and bradycardia. Death can also result from excessive Digitalis intake. Several reports of illness and injuries have been received.
Actavis manufactures the products for Mylan and the products are distributed by Mylan and UDL under the Bertek and UDL labels. Bertek and UDL are affiliates of Mylan.
Any customer inquiries related to this action should be addressed to Stericycle customer service at 1-888-276-6166 with representatives available Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm EST. Additional information about the voluntary recall can also be found at www.actavis.us.
Retailers who have this product are urged to return the product to their place of purchase. If consumers have medical questions, they should contact their health care providers.
This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration.
Any adverse reactions experienced with the use of this product, and/or quality problems should also be reported to the FDA's MedWatch Program by phone at 1-800-FDA-1088, by fax at 1-800-FDA-0178, by mail at MedWatch, FDA, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787, or on the MedWatch website at www.fda.gov/medwatch.

Sdl19 - This is very serious. There have been reports of heart attacks and strokes. My mother passed away on 9/11/2008 from a massive stroke. She was on Digitek last year. They are testing the pills she had left over. We were never notified of the recall. I found it online by accident. Please follow thru and check this out!
