Can Fat Necrosis From the Kenalog Shot Be Relieved With Collagen Shots??

I received varies Kenalog shots about a year ago for very bad allergies and sinus infections. The last Kenalog shot left me with a indentation on my hip (about the size of a ping pong). I saw a Dermatologist and she said we could fill them with collagen fillers and if not then resort to surgery but surgery would be the last case scenerio. My question is..... Can the damage from be reversed with those shots? Will the fat grow back over years? and Can it (the fat necrosis) cause any TRUE damage to my body??

Dlg - I also have a very similar story. I was glad to find you both here. I thought I was alone. In September I received a type of steroid or corticosteroid (?not sure if it was Kenalog or not) shot. My Dr. prescribed the shot because I had allergies and a mild infection in my lungs. [ in hindsight, I would have rather suffered the allergy/lung infection than this!] Mid October, about 3 weeks after the shot, my husband noticed what looked like a purple bruise on my back/hip. Mind you- the shot is supposed to be administered IN THE DEEP GLUTEAL MUSCLE! This nurse gave me my shot on my back/hip. I thought it was a bruise and then I noticed the strange indentation. By November, the indentation was still growing/spreading. The "hole" as I call it, is now about the size of a ping pong ball. What was a purplish color to my skin is now completely void of skin pigmentation. I am extremely upset that the nurse who gave me the shot, gave it to me so high and subcutaneously rather than intramuscularly! I was told by a plastic sureon that fillers could be injected but would have to be reinjected every 6 months. Option 2 would be a fat transfer to the area. I DO NOT LIKE EITHER OPTION. From what I have read everywhere, it is more dangerous (risk of epidermal/necrosis infection) to continue to deal with the area than to just leave it alone. MY QUESTON TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE THIS IS: "do you have any pain in or near the area of necrosis?" Now 4 months later, I have pain in my glutes, and back all around the area of the necrosis! It concerns me that more damage may have/or currently be occuring under the skin. Does anyone have any similar story or information? Thank you!!!

Korileann - I went to my local family wellness center for what I thought was a sinus infection, very bad allergies, the PAC ordered the shot, the MA came in I asked what it was after I had already recieved it in my right buttocks. He told me it was kenalog, I went home and looked it up, my allergy symptoms were relieved within 2 days. Now months later, I noticed my skin was indented on one side. I go online to search the causes and I am glad to know that it is from the medication Kenalog and not cancer...however I am very upset because I did not know this could happen and I wish I had been told this was a possibility. It is ugly.
