lamictal controls seizures if you take it at the right time. i am on 200 at night and 200 in the morning plus epilim. sometimes i just sit and cry wen im trying to concentrate on reading books i have to study or trying to remember work i learnt at school which has left my brain. im failing school not matter how hard i try, i study all the time then the next day i have forgotten it. im so young and i havnt even started my future yet and i may have screwed it already. failing exams because i forgot wat i learnt the night before hurts so bad. its hard to say "hey everyone the reason i failed is because lamictal screws my memory" i know thats what it is. i was extremely intelligent before i started taking it, but now im a failure. i guess deep inside i know really im not a failure, but lamictal makes me one. : ( p.s add a constant hand tremor and sudden jerking movements every now and then.

Ruth1234 - I take that pill every other day sometimes every 2 days and can function a lot better and i have gained my memory back, everytime someone has a seizure they receive new brain cells. I have noticed I can exress my self much better as a result of my seizure. You will be alright . Good luck Ruth

1denise - I also had severe memory problems taking the Lamictal. After attempting to change seizure meds ( worse side effects ). I went back on the Lamictal but only took half the dose. My memory is back now & thankfully no seizures yet.

Emsmom - PLease tell us about your tremors and twitches/jerks. My 17 year old daughter was on Lamictal for photosensitive epilepsy. It did not control the absence seizures and after about two weeks her right hand started tremoring. She has been off the Lamictal (on Depakote, off Depakote, on Keppra, off Keppra) for almost six months but the tremor continues plus she has muscle jerks in her upper body and right leg which have progressively worsened since January. Doctors can't figure it out, chiropractic hasn't helped either.

Mrichmond - Depakote works for me but I had to try a few times to find what works for me so don't give up. Just wanted to let you know that there are other options, you aren't stuck. After finding what worked for me I managed to go through five years of college and get my degree with good grades. You will too, I have only had that problem with reading on lamictal. You should try something else.

Tanguayheidi - Are you in college? If you are, most likely there is a students with disabilities program that you can get into. I had to do that at my college. You just need to have your neurologist send a letter verifying the trouble that your having because of your medication and you fill out some forms, then the school can give you extra things that may help you out, like extra time to complete assignments. Also, there are so many different meds out there for seizures, believe me, I've tried 4 already. Try something else until you find what works for you. I am also on Lamictal, I was fine until I started the 200mg dose, now I have such extreme body aches and chills, I can't function. The doc told me to go down to 150mg and see if it helps. We'll see!

Dante76 - I am so glad I read your posting. I am also in school pre-nursing and everything I study I forget. I have been on and off Lamictal for bipolar disorder. Most recently I have been having a wierd trembling sensation running down my left arm and leg. It feels like I am going to lose muscle control, in combination with this I have heart tremors or it feels that way. I am also on Lithium and I am ready to just quit both because this is driving me crazy. I wonder if it is the medication or something else. Anyway I get what you are saying

Alexpa - I also have this problem. I've been off lamictal for almost exactly 2 years now, and I still experience the problems with reading and concentrating, although slowly this is getting better. I was also extremely intelligent, went to great prep school, started taking lamictal in 2nd year of university, and can now not remember anything I learned in those 2 years. It's unbelievable that someone could do this to me.
