I have taken Levoxyl for over 2 years and am still having big problems with hair loss. I have complained to my doctor numerous times, but she always says that it is the thyroid condition not the drug (I had no problems wtih hair loss until I started taking Levoxyl). I can't believe there are so many people with this problem. I thought I was just sensitive. ... more »

Has anyone found a solution? I hate going off it, because before taking Levoxyl, I was always tired.

Maximon13 - Whenever I take synthetic hormone replacement, I develop hair loss. After reading a new endocrinology text recently, I decided to change briefly from Armour Thyroid to Synthroid + Cytomel, and have regretted it ever since. (Synthroid = levothyroxine = Levoxyl) I felt horrible with the change in medication and started losing large amounts of hair almost immediately. Three weeks back on my previous Armour Thyroid dose and my mood and energy are nearly back to normal, but my hair loss continues... I am hopeful that it will taper off.

Helaine01 - I am so releived to know that i am not the only one that thinks that the thyroid medicine is making my hair fall out. Why do doctors deny that this happens. Have they read the direction side effects page .. It states that Levoxl may cause hair loss. I have been to all kinds of dermatoligsts, hair specialists, no one can come up with a reason. They say that one my levels are correct, I should stop losing hair. That was 2 years ago., My levels are fine. I have no other real symptoms other than dry hair, scalp and major hair loss. I lost 3/4 of my hair already. I counted once, 75 hairs in the shower and another 50 or so when i combed out my hair,. That does not include the hair I lose all day long. It is not heriety this hair loss. The reason I belive that it is the medicine is because it started about a month into taking it and hasnt stopped since. Why wont the doctors listen too me... I know my body better than anyone! I lived ini it for 40 years!
