Levoxyl Hypothyroid, Synthroid, Armour, Pockets, Medications
Posted over a year ago
After being on Synthroid for a few years and getting NOTHING from it, I was switched to Levoxyl for several more years, and got NOTHING for it either. They are some of the most useless medications ever made, and all they do is put money in the pockets of the maker. Armour is what made a HUGE difference in my hypothyroid. ******
Tiredofthisnow - I had been on synthroid for six years at the lowest dosage and continued to gain weight and still had all the symptoms of hypo thyroid. I told my doctor it wasn't working, but my blood work always came back as normal. The dr. increased my dosage and I felt so awful with the increase, and the joint pain, swollen feet, exhaustion became so bad that I thought I might die. I stopped taking the synthroid medication all together and started taking iodine drops and felt much better. I had my blood work done after I was off the synthroid for three months and it came back saying that my TSH readings were 70 and they should be between, (according to my doctor) 7-10. She said that I had to go back on the meds, but I refused to take the synthroid. I asked her to put me on the diseccated pig hormone, as I read good reviews about it, and she did. I been on it for almost two weeks. Started at the lowest dosage and felt awful again, like I did on the higher dosage of synthroid. My hands and feets are swollen, I am exhausted, cranky and my periods have stopped. I have red swelling in my joints from the tops of my feet to my knees. My knees are so swollen I can't bend them. After one week on the lowest dosage, I decided to cut it in half. Still feeling swollen, and still have the redness on the tops of my feet and up my leg, but it seems to be subsiding. Knees can bend as long as I don't walk too much, then they swll, I am not scheduled for another blood test to see where my TSH levels are for another 3 months. This morning, I decided not to take my meds. I am not sure if I am getting too much meds, or not enough. I am also experiencing hot flashes. I surmise that I am getting too much hormone, because of how I felt when the doctor increased my sythroid. The two drugs are different so I am not sure what to do. I don't feel my body can take the prescribed dosage of diseccated porcine (thyroid) and I am afraid to stop taking them again for fear my TSH will shoot up to 70 before I get to see the doctor. Note# My doctor knows nothing about thyroid and only that you have to keep checking your TSH levels. But as everyone knows, there is so much more to it. I would really love any advice anyone has. Is anyone taking diseccated porcine. Did you have any symptoms while on it? I am at my wits end and am tires of feeling this way. I went undiagnosed for 20 years and never really understood the disease until recently, when I decided to research hypothyroidism. I am so confused. Please help me.
