Lipitor Sore Muscles, Muscles Tendons, Statins, Amitriptyline, Fibromyalgia

I am now almost 12 months post 80mg Lipitor once daily which was prescribed for a possible TIA (it turned out to be a migraine with aura and cholesterol of 6.8). I am still trying to recover from the severe side effects. At least my physician acknowledges that I must avoid all statins and that I now have Statin induced Fibromyalgia. Daily pain, sore muscles, tendons in feet, insomnia, fluey feelings etc (I could go on listing symptoms). I know I was incorrectly prescribed 80mg i.e. doc thought I was possible imminent stroke but when I see so many people posting that they were sick on just 10-20mg I wonder 1 year on will I ever recover. I am a 38yr old relatively fit female and I feel much older. Anyone think I will recover someday? My physician thinks over time i.e. years that I should make a full recovery. Now am on 50 or 75mg of Amitriptyline daily to sleep.

Lin20 - Hi, It has been some time since I checked this website. I am now 1yr 3mnths off Lipitor 80mg and unfortunately I am still having problems. My physician (the Doc who put me on Lipitor) is confident that I will recover in time. I have statin induced Fibromyalgia which causes widespread pain and painful trigger points all over, fibro fog, insomnia etc. I have very sore feet and tendonitis which makes exercising very difficult. Consequently I have put on weight which makes everything feel much worse but my days are not as bad as they used to be. I too get very sore muscles when I exercise I think Lipitor damages muscles and the body in general so much it takes a long time to recover. Three years is a long time but this drug is so damaging it may take a very long time to reverse. I have been told by every Doc I have seen that this will reverse so I am hopeful. All we can do is plow on, eat well and exercise as much as we can. I understand your frustration I feel the same too. I hope statins are taken off the market they do such damage! My Mum was on Crestor 10mg for a few years she (like me at 38yrs) developed very bad memory. Unlike with me it was obviously the statin and memory improved on stopping but because my mother is late 70's it was thought it was the beginning of Dementia and was treated for it. It took 2yrs of my protests to get my mother off it (she has average cholesterol) and hey presto her memory suddenly got better over a few weeks. We have our mother back. I feel sorry for older people they are locked in this drug induced cage and their symptoms are put down to age. Give me high cholesterol any day. Good luck to us all.

Smokediver128 - Smokediver128: I've been on a statin prodouck, 20mg simvastatin for about five years. Over that time I have found that my stamina has diminished considerable and muscle ache and fatigue became a growing problem. Initially, I chalked it up to aging and my career as a professional firefighter. I figured that all of the demands from my career was finally catching up with me. After numerous talks with my doctor and considerable research on statin products, I came to realize that the statins were the major contributing cause to the way I was feeling. My doctor finally took me off the statins a couple of months ago. The first week off the med I started feeling better but on the eighth day I was slammed wit muscle and joint aches all over my body and the fatigue factor kept me immobile for over a week. Now over two months later I have an occasional good day but, if I exercise any by walking or light workousts on my home gym, I am laid up for the next several days with chronic fatigue and muscles ache. I'. 66 years old and there are days I feel like I'm 80. From all the research I have done, I have found that it's going to be a long time before I come anywhere near a full recovery. I'll never take another statin related med again. My quality of life has been slowed down way more than I like. I have been on a vitamin D3 supplement for that last two months and that has helped with some of the joint and muscle ache. I wish you all good luck on your recovery efforts and hope that someday that I can return to a more normal life.
