Getting Off of the Lipitor

Is there any danger or marked side effects to getting off of Lipitor? I have taken 10mg daily for 3 years now and my blood work is much improved. My cholesterol is 160 and triglycerides-HDL and LDL are those of a teen, according to my physician. I have also increased exercise and have retired. all in all this is good. However, perhaps i no longer need the statin. Are there any deleterious effects to withdrawing the med?? ... more »

Bobby - I have heard of people quiting Lipitor cold turkey, and some have decided to taper off slowly. I haven't heard of anything bad from stopping, but its your choice. Due to direct to consumer advertising of prescription drugs like lipitor, and continuing education of physicians being funded by the drug companies, most people have the perception that lowering cholesterol is healthy. However low cholesterol has its own set of health problems. New research shows persons age 70 with cholesterol in the low 200's range live longer and are healthier than those with low cholesterol. 777 - I stopped taking this dangerous drug "cold turkey". I continue to take natural products to control my cholesterol. Cholesterol of l60 is too low and can cause many problems.
