I have been taking Lisinopril/HCTZ for quite some time now for my blood pressure and is the only medication I take. However I am a very forgetful person and sometimes have forgotten to take it daily as I should. However, due to how miserable I felt when I miss my doses, I am doing everything I can to remember to take it daily.
Going on and off this medication several times over the last few years, I have noticed some things. I begin to retain water and swell and generally feel terrible by the 2nd day without it and by the 4th day without, pretty much bed ridden. Not fun. So, I get back to taking it, once again. By the first day, when the urinating frequently increases, I start feeling better almost immediately. By the 2nd day back on the medicine, my feet look like a new person. They are no longer swollen to an unrecognizable state, but actually can see the bones and veins like a skinny girls' foot. lol Then by the 4th or 5th day taking it regularly again, I notice the swelling gradually disappearing from my ankles, then calves. It feels awesome. My feet and ankles no longer hurt, the difficulty breathing and tiredness has dissipated.
But again, with my own experiences, I have noticed. I must drink plenty of water and fluids or I get dehydrated (dizzy when coming to a stand, etc.) My personal favorite is unsweetened iced tea. It keeps me from having that problem and I keep a glass of it or water handy and sip on it throughout the day. Then, if I start feeling any type of cramping begin in my feet (usually that's the first place and usually while sleeping), I can get up eat a banana, run the cramped area under some hot water and/or massage it and they feel much better. So keeping bananas in stock in this house has become routine also. After 3 or 4 days back taking the medicine regularly, the cramping usually stops for me.
So, with all the negative comments, I just wanted to say, that even with all the side effects that I have personally gone through.....I feel much better even with the side effects I mentioned than going without the medication and feel like I am going to have a heart attack or stroke at any minute. I will....I will remember to take it every day. I must.
