Took macrobid for 3 days. On the 3rd day I had a headache, wirh burning in my back and neck muscles. I got up on the 4th day and doubled over with abdominal cramps. I then had a bad case of loose stools. I took the next macrobid with some food. About 5 hrs later I felt really tired and spacey, difficult to focus. I had a painful headache in the back of my head and was dizzy. I had some numbing of both jaws. Then i got really anxious and felt I was going to crawl out of my skin. I went to the ER, the doctor thought I had a bad flu viris. Since the symptoms were not typical allergic reaction for medications he thought I had anxiety disorder and when my bloodwork came back negative he prescribed a zanex which helped calm me down but i felt like I had the worst flu and would have been more scared if I hadn't had an H1N1 flu shot.
I slept at home after the zanex but the next am I was really dragged out. A few days later I am weak but slowly improving. At the height of my severe flu like symptoms I was wondering if I was ever going to get better. I am a health 62 yr old who can't remember the last time I got ill. The week before taking macrobid I was swimming laps daily and cross country sking, full of energy but this week just worn out. But since I improved so fast it had to be the drug. An added efffect was some really strange dreams and not sleeping good when I am the greatest sleeper ever. I will never take macrobid again and it should not be on the market.
