I Have Been on Metoprolol SUCC ER and Can't Wait to Get Off of It!

I am 36 and have been taking this medication for on month now, ever since I was released from the hospital due to sustained runs of ventricular tachycardia. That was the scariest time of my life. I am suffering also from premature ventricular contractions. The medicine makes me feel like there is a huge lump or ball in my throat. The best way to describe it is if you were swimming all day in a pool on a smoggy day. I also can't remember something I just did a minute ago. I feel like an alien is going to come right through my chest any day from all the pressure I feel. I have been eating more and at night I feel like I forget to breath. I can't wait to get off this medicine. Does anyone else feel this way?

Culatersucker - I've been on it for 3 months and i often feel lightheaded and pressure in my chest. The doctor didn't seem too concerned about it. I am not a fan of these meds.

Ysarks - I just got put on this medicine. I feel like I am in a fog all the time, can't concentrate and just want to rest. I don't know how to get my energy back and I'm becoming quite annoyed with these symptoms.

Mbabb55 - hi Ysarks, I am sorry you feel this way, I understand all too well. The begining of May, my Doctor put me off the medication because he needed to capture my arrythmias on a 12-lead ekg. About three days later I felt back to normal. I lost the additional weight that I gained, I don't eat as much from the medicine, my heart doesn't feel like it's going to come out of my chest. I actually remember things. I was so fustrating to not remember. But, I know I will be put back on it soon. I am going to ask for something else. I was on atenolol but I guess it wasn't working. Their are so many medications out there. Tell your doctor, ask him about other medications because we shouldn't feel this way. Take care and good luck.

Mbabb55 - Hi Culatersucker, I aslo feel like that. I also asked the Dr. about it and he wasn't too concerned. He said that is the medicine. I was on it from February to May 1st. It never got better. All medications put such a huge toll on our body's. Ask your Doctor about a different medication. I have another Doctor's appointment on Monday and I am telling him how much I do not like this medication and how I feel since I have been off of it. Of course my heart was going crazy still, but their are other medications out there. Take care of yourself and try to do your best. Your family really has to be supported in this because it is so frustrating. They don't understand why your a zombie or why you can't remember. It's tuff. Good luck!

Missmary2008 - Oh good heavens. Thanks for telling me about the memory loss. I am 75 and really getting worried I was losing it. I have been taking metoprolol since January. No serious side effects until recently when my blood pressure started dropping. Doctor advised me to start taking half a tablet. I just started this, so it is to be seen what benefit. I also take Diltiazem hcl cd 180 mg. Is anyone else on this combination? Thank you. Mary

Therapist12345 - I was recently diagnosed with PVC's. For a moment I thought my symptoms were an early sign of heart disease. My doctor reasured me that PVC's are normal and are very common in health individuals. He prescribed me on this medicine to help regulate my heart beats. Im very nervous about taking it because I don't want to experience any side effects. The good thing is that I know I'm not alone and that there are many people who have PVC's. Good luck to everyone out there....

Pbondoc - oh gosh I'm on it now because the doc said I had tachycardia I just had an episode where it felt like I was choking I got all scared and I get the contractions too I really want to be back to my normal self
