Mirena Increased Vaginal Discharge, Foul Odor, Sex Drive, Birth Control, Mirena

I got Mirena inserted back in April 2009 after my son was born. I have been feeling tired and have had back aches as well as some increased vaginal discharge. However, no foul odor and my sex drive is just fine. I'm wondering if the effects get worse the longer you have it in? It seems that most of you are experiencing these horrible side effects after 6months or so.
I'm going to keep my Mirena in and see how things go. It is a convenient form of birth control, but since I no longer have a period I get very paranoid that I could be pregnant again! :\

Ksgarcia23 - I had my Mirena inserted back in December of 09, and I haven't gotten my period and I took a pregnancy test and they came out negative, and I was just wondering could it be Mirena. But I do agree with you on it being a convenient form of birth control, I was just wondering what could be the reason I havent gotten my period.

Newtomirena - KSGarcia23, When I had the Mirena inserted, I was told by my OB that in general, many women stop having their periods. From what I understand, what happens is Mirena releases the hormone levonorgestrel into your system which in turn thins out the lining of your uterine wall. Therefore there is less to shed which results in less bleeding. Does that make sense to you? Although I was also told that Mirena is as effective as getting your tubes tied, I'm learning that many people have still gotten pregnant with the IUD inserted. But it seems like pregnancy results after a couple years of having the Mirena in. I think maybe it loses its effectiveness after a while. My doctor said its really only for people wanting to avoid pregnancy for 1-2years and after that amount of time you should have it checked. To sum it up, the hormone Mirena releases thins out the uterine wall making your monthly period not 'appear' however your body is actually still menstruating.
