I'm 35 with two children (9 and 5 years old) I had my first Mirena inserted after my first son was born and removed w/o any trouble b/c we were planning for a second Child. I did conceive very quickly after the removal and decided for another Mirena right after the birth of my second son. Well, I had no problem at all with it. The only thing I noticed was, that I still had my regular cycles and really oily skin with ugly breakouts all over my face.
Anyways, last May it was time for the removal and that's were my story really starts. The thread tore off at the removal. Ugh, shocked I had to make appointments for an Ultrasound, CT scan, pre op and pre testing at our local hospital, b/c my Mirena needed to be removed surgically. When I went to have this done, I was told this whole procedure would last about 10 minutes and with 40 minutes waking up, I'd be done in an hour. My doctor couldn't find it, so they had to go through my belly in three different places to finally get it out. After about 2 hours of surgery my doctor found it stuck inside the wall of my uterus!!
I'm fine now after 2 1/2 weeks, but still kind of in shock about the whole thing. How quickly something so little can go wrong. I'm not blaming anybody, b/c I know my Doc took good care of me. I just feel, I need to let women, who consider this typ of birth control, know, to be aware of the side effects, do your research and check out all of you options!!!
I had the Mirena inserted twice and was happy with the product, just the removal didn't go as planned.
God bless you all!
