Removal of Mirena NOT GOOD

THIS IS HORRIBLE I WILL NOT BE ON ANY KIND OF BIRTH CONTROL THEY ALL RECOMMENDED THIS MIRENA IT WAS SOO PAINFUL GOING IN AND COMING OUT AND NOW IM BLEEDING SO BAD AND CLOTTING SO BAD.. AND THEY CANT DO ANYTHING FOR ME :(
Rites - Mirena...... Oh so much to be said about this awful thing!! I had mine inserted 3 1/2 years ago after having my 2nd child. From the beginning, I started having very painful intercourse (so painful I would be in the fetal position for the rest of the night after sex) and weird health issues. I just chalked it up to being female. Then after about 2 years, my periods (no bleeding) were very painful, all the cramps were more intense then ever before having it inserted. My mood swings got worse each month. Sometimes I would just go off for stupid reasons and it was like I was completely out of control of my own emotions. My blood work from the doctor started saying I was having liver issues, and then all the sudden out of nowhere- I'm anemic. So then I was on iron. Then I was diagnosed with restless leg syndrome (another wonderful side effect of Mirena) I had every possible negative reaction under the sun to Mirena. My herpes that were never really a problem, suddenly I was having small outbreaks monthly(but I never contributed that to Mirena until now after having it removed). Then suddenly about a month ago, SEVERE cramps out of nowhere! I had cramps starting near my right ovary then spreading across my whole pelvic region for 4 days, and on the 5th day the pain moved to my lower back. I went to my OB and he said nothing was wrong. So I insisted he remove my Mirena. Of course he tried to convince me that was not the issue, but I told him I didn't care- take it out!!! When he removed it, he said, "That's odd". I asked him why, and he told me when Mirena is removed, it usually comes out clean. But mine came out with part of my uterus or cervix (a bunch of tissue and blood) attached to it. I was in IMMEDIATE pain on my left side. After taking 10 days of antibiotics, I still didn't feel better. Now (3 weeks post removal) my whole abdomen is having strange pains and I feel a lot of pressure. Then, out of nowhere, I got the Worst herpes outbreak since I was diagnosed in 2004. This outbreak started 2 weeks after having it removed, and it literally has had me in bed for 3 days now- fever, chills, large blister on my anus and a huge patch of blisters all the way up my buttock. The only thing I can contribute to the outbreak is the removal of Mirena. I advise anyone looking into having Mirena inserted to think twice- the pamphlet they give out about Mirena does not describe what it's going to do to you at all!!!!! And, if you do get it and then have it removed- have fun with the absolutely horrible emotional roller coaster it is going to cause. My poor husband has had to put up with me being a wreck- between the pain and the outbreak, then there's me weeping for no reason at all. I just feel blah and can't wait until the side effects of Mirena wear off!!!
Embarrassed Mum - that is awful, i got copper coil put in oct 09 and it was exreamly painful i have 2 kids, i started getting pains a few weeks later with incrusaiting pain in my stomach, i cud no longer feel strings.
i rang out hrs said contact gp nxt day... i didnt pain settled down, its so embarrasing iv a male doc, i didnt go to him to have it placed. i went to family clinic to have mine put in and they were really nice.
yrs later i have ongoing pain in my abdomen and right hip but now iv started to get pelvic pain last month lower bk pain and im always cold. i thought id bit of fever but hands and feet freezing. i get pains in my legs if im cold and iv now started to experinece pain around the joint in my knees and sore shins.. my upper leg thigh is sometimes sore to press. i be heavy headed and unbalanced at times.
i also have experience an unpleasant odour for couple years from vagina i thought it was negetive side effect from using iud and would have to shower least2 times a day. but reading everyone symtons i have not realised that the iud cud b causing this..
iv contacted nurses out of hours and are extreamly unhelpful and patronising i dont even get a doctor call bk...can someone help me with info.
iv take the step to finally call the clinic to get it checked and removed...the 1st experience of getting it put in was traumatising but doctor and nurse were so nice. i wudnt recommend it at all thought it works for others i might have been the unlucky percentage...
has ne1 else had the same experience as me?????
Savannaho0x - I've only had the Mirena for 3 months and I am scheduled to get it taken out next week. I get heat flashes, extreme lightheadedness where I everything gets black and I almost fall over, I wake up with headaches, have random nausea, sometimes I go to get up and my muscles are completely weak, I just started getting restless leg syndrome(haven't gotten it diagnosed, but I cannot fall asleep because my legs feel like theyre having muscle spasms,like i need to get up and walk), every time I have a period whether its heavy or just spotting I get horrible sharp pains that make me stop whatever Im doing and grab my stomach, I get diahhrea during and after every period_only this time every time i eat i have to go, i just started getting this pressure in my lower abdomen that hurts very bad when i touch it_like something isnt right, and now intercourse is painful and ive had extremely bad HAIR LOSS!! whenever i run my fingers through my hair big clumps fall out, as well as in the shower and when combing through it. I have small balding spots on the side of my head & i know this is all because of the MIRENA. I never had any of this before having mirena placed.
Cllucero - The good thing is it only takes a few seconds to remove the Mirena. After I had several unpleasant side effects ( Migraines, severe chills, numbness of limbs etc., then talking with two docs who thought I was nuts, I had device removed and began to feel better. If in doubt take it out!
