Terrifying... and My Gyno Called Me a Liar
I had the Mirena inserted in June 2011 because I'd had increasingly terribly painful and heavy periods since giving birth to twins in 2008. I cannot take the pill because of blood clotting issues, so my gyno told me this would be my solution. After insertion, I had spotting - no big deal. What WAS a big deal was the tension, ANGER, depression and massive and constant sense of agitation (did I mention anger?!) I lived with DAILY. Within 4 days of removal, I was back to normal. It was unreal.
When I told my gyno my experience, she called me a liar. She told me there was no way it could cause such side effects because it was so "localized" and such a low dose of hormone. She told me that maybe I was just at a "bad time in my life". Nice. She then advocated I have another reinserted to deal with my bleeding issues. Seriously!? And put my husband and kids through that again?! And what would happen if my side effects actually WORSENED and I hurt myself, or even more horrific, if I hurt one of THEM???
This product is NOT FOR EVERYONE - and some people can seriously have some TERRIBLE side effects. I think it is irresponsible and unprofessional for those advocating their use not to fully and honestly inform patients of the potential risks involved!
I would rather suffer and pain and dibilitation of endometriosis, adenomyosis and fibroids than put another mirena in my body. Period.
