I want to tell my mirena story because I think every one’s story counts and I would like to help others now that I have finally made the connection. I am on Topamax for Epilepsy, and have been for about 3 years, the last couple being the generic version. To make a long story short, I thought the culprit was the Topamax, it’s not great mind you, but once I switched from generic to brand all my bad side effects went away. Yes, there is a difference between generic and brand!! While searching sites all I saw were posts on Mirena and this opened my eyes. I had it taken out about Nov 2010. I immediately felt a burst of energy that was undeniable. Had it out for a couple months and while I did I had felt better but was not yet settled with my seizure meds so wasn’t sure the mirena was to blame. Hated having my period again and of course it was probably extra heavy because it was getting settled again, so I decided to put the Mirena back in February 11th. It is about 2 weeks after I have put it back in and now I am convinced of the connection with this awful thing!! I do believe the silicone connection is likely to blame, plus the hormones. My side effects that began Day one are as follows and bad enough to have removed: Horrible Fatigue (I spent lunch hours napping in my car) and muscle weakness (I was convinced I had fibromyalgia) IBS – could not go, stomach pains, gas, Sinus issues, headaches (literal feeling that I was “sick” – this never happened when Mirena was out but started right up again when it was back in, alcohol intolerance, hair loss (also a side effect of Topamax) Crying for no reason, being miserable, depression, snapping at my kids, and an overall fog. Please let me know if you experience the same issues! I was happy to know at least, that once out, I felt so much better, so tomorrow, I will feel better again!
