Is Mirena Safe??
Posted over a year ago
I'am 26 almost 27 have 4 boys and interested in the Mirena but not sure If I should get it..I've seen alot of bad post about it. Does anyone recomend it? Or Recommend someting else..
Missmommy48 - I think its a great option. I have had some problems with mine and was really worried for a little bit after reading all the negative posts but I'm going to stick it out for a couple more months and see what happens. I got mirena put in in December and my issues are with mainly cramping and I bled constantly just till a couple days ago. But I think its going to be worth it. If you don't like it its not permanent. You can get it removed whenever you want. Just make sure you have your gyno leave the strings long so they don't poke your partner during intercourse. You can all ways get them shortened but once they are to short therapy nothing they can do but remove it. Hope this helps :)
Ambers8380 - I have had Mirena for almost 2 years. I switched from nuva ring, which I was on for 5 years. I LOVE Mirena. The first few months were not great (cramping and spotting) but nothing unbearable. I think it is important to remember everyone is different and what works for one may not work for another. I have lost 10 lbs and haven't had a period since June of 2009. Good luck!!
Justamom - I have had Mirena since March 2008. I have experienced weight fluctuations and increased appetite. I have mood swings and am frequently tired. The first two years, I experienced pain during sex, but it was not unbearable. I have developed breast fibroids, which occur while ovulating. I am 32 years old and have recently starting developing acne. It is strange, because I did not have acne even as a teen. On the upside, I no longer experience pain during sex, my periods only last a few days, are very light and only occur once every 3-4 months. I hated taking the pill and the shots were much worse. I think everyone's body reacts differently, just like with any other form of birth control. When I was on the pill, I gained tons of weight and always felt sick. I would recommend Mirena for its convenience and effectiveness. I hope this helps you to make a decision. I will probably have another reinserted next year.
Dtaylor30011 - I did not like Mirena at all and I can not take the pill either. The depo shot has seemed to work the best for me. Never tried the Nuva ring. Good luck to you
Tbear0509 - I have had Mirena for a year and I LOVE it! It was painful having it put in, and for the first few months I would start spotting at random times, but now I no longer have periods, and that is great!
Ponkie - I've had the mirena 4 years. Loved not having periods.
I did get yeast infections regularly and got headaches, but think its a very hassle free contraception. It is worth trying. There is a lot of negative about it on this site but each person reacts differently and you will not know unless you try. For example the weight gain. My weight is exactly the same as before.
Ask your doctor for a tablet to dilate your uterus for insertion, then its not so painful as most women say.(It wasn't painful for me) And you have to be on your period when you have it put in.
Good luck with your decision.
