MIRENA and THYROID ISSUES?
Posted over a year ago
I had the mirena and had lots of similar issues as it seems everyone else is having (weight gain, fatigue, memory problems, just feeling like crap!)
My question however is... has any one else had thyroid problems after having the merina? I had never had thyroid problems until I had my merina and now I do. Will it improve now that I have had it removed or will I always be on thyroid medication?
Crystalrhine - I don't know. That's a good question. I think I need to go to the doctors and check my thyroids. I've never had problems like that till I had the Mirena. I've had it out for 4 months now. Last month seemed to be the worse. I feel slowly that I'm getting back to myself. So maybe you won't have to keep on the medication forever.
Amazingbabe - I developed an underactive thyroid after having the mirena inserted. I never linked the two. All the side effects, weight gain, depression, anxiety, acne, cramps, dandruff, fatigue, brain fog, i never linked these with the mirena but instead with the thyroid issue, only now have i realised that the whole lot was down to the coil, i have now had the coil removed and i feel much better already like a big cloud has been lifted from me. The first 2 weeks i had bleeding and clots not nice but feel good now. I think people are not aware of how this mirena affects people at all * there should be a health warning with it)
Dgrimes387 - I have just been notified that I have low thyriod level just today when my doctor called me about my blood work. When I hung up with my doctor I immediatly called my GYN to remove my mirena. I've had so many problems since the mirena. I have gained 30 pounds (and I diet and exercise all the time) my hands and feet swell, my breast are always tender, feel bloated 24/7, and I'm just misreble all the time. Sorry for being negative but this is killing me. I am so ready for this mirena to be taken out. Two positive things though, no monthly period, and it works well for what it suppose to do.
