I hope my experience helps somebody who is desperate to find answers as i was, last year due to stress n' family crisis I started having this knot in d gut feeling, chest pain in sternon that wont go away for months, constant sneezing (i took claritin thinking it was allergy), pain when swallowing n feeling that all food i ate was being return to my mouth, even at times i felt like chocking when drinking water so I ran to see a Dr, he prescribed me protonix n 2 more antiacids including prilosec which made my symptoms worse, after a few months I run to d ER cause i was feeling like a heart attack, in the end it was just a panic attack then I stopped taking antiacids, started eating better, exercise more, tried to relax through music (i started playing guitar out of nothing) n constantly changed my routine, in the end it was all in my mind, i'm a kinda nervous guy, so i took problems really too seriously n' that cause me depression n' heartburn.
After i ve got an upper endoscopy Dr. found my esophagus was irritated n' had Hiatal hernia so I had to change my life style even lost like 20 pounds, I was prescribed prilosec for life but when i took it with prozac i felt an increase in anxiety attacks so again i stopped taking antiacids n' I feel well.
I try to eat healthy, have dinner 4 hours before bedtime, avoid stress, exercise, drink water no sodas n' when i feel that i'm having heartburn I just chew a sweet gum (sugar less) the trick is that chewing gum makes ur mouth produce more saliva which eventually will go down to ur stomach n quiet ur heartburn, I said quite not eliminate heartburn, so if u feel that u r having like a heart attack my advice is to always check with ur Dr, n' if not u should try to do d things I wrote above. I hope this will help somebody, stress can really affect somebody emotionally n' fisically n' if u also have insomnia like I had makes it even worse. Good Luck.
