Yesterday my 16 year old son's lips swelled up and turned dark red within minutes after the dental hygenist applied petroleum jelly to his lips. Two doses of Benadryl finally took most of the swelling down. IS IT POSSIBLE HE IS ALLERGIC TO PETROLEUM JELLY? I have never heard of such a thing. I questioned whether it was a reaction to the hygenist's latex gloves, but he has been exposed to latex frequently and has never reacted before. Anyone know anything about allergic reactions to petroleum jelly?
