Has anyone experienced multiple pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs)?
Pareisl - I have been on Remicade since October, 2008 (3 infusions), and am now recovering from multiple bilateral pulmonary emboli, which began as a bad cough on New Year's Eve day. Although I went to my primary care physician on 3 occasions, nothing was found until a CT Scan was done, and then I spent 8 day doing very little in the hospital. I was on Heparin for the entire time in the hospital and am now on Coumadin for at least a year. I have seen no evidence as yet that the Remicade is helping my psoriatic arthritis, and my rheumatologist will not infuse me again until my cough is completely gone.
I would like to know why you are interested in this topic. Is this another side effect of Remicade, one not noted in any literature that I have read.
Aclark3012 - Yes I had this conditin in oct of 08-after knee replacement. I have never taken remicade--I dont know why I got this condition--I assume my doctor used a blood thinner during surgery and I have had about 8 surgeries in my lifetime and never had clots. I am on Coumadin now--
Vusarah - I had one PE but it was prior to taking Remicade; at the time I was transitioning from Raptiva to Enbrel. Now I am on Remicade, have only had two infusions for psoriasis (week zero and week two) was supposed to have third infusion tomorrow but am now seeing a neurologist due to finger numbness. Has anyone seen this? Or could it be simple carpal tunnel?
Browneyes14 - My son has been on Remicade for about 5 years now for psoriatic arthritis and he has seen a great deal of improvement with the psoriasis, but the imflammation is unbearable somedays. I am worried about blood clots, since my cousin died just 4 days ago receiving remicade infusion and he developed a blood clot and it traveled to his heart. He was 45 years old and I am worried about my son. Has this happened to anyone about getting a blood clot from Remicade?
Patient2 - I developed blood clots in my lungs after only three Remicade infusions. My doctor thinks Remicade caused this. I filed suit against the company making Remicade and found out there have been lots of cases like this. I think your son needs to talk with his doctor.
Seaweed - In November 2010, I experienced shortness of breath and after visiting the physician, we thought it may be a respiratory infection. Two days later, after another visit to same dr., she sent me to ER. There I was diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary emobli and clots in both legs. After 3 days stay in ICU and one on the floor in the hospital, I returned home. A filter was placed in my inferion vena cava to catch any clots from my legs and I was place on Coumadin. I am not receiving remicaid at this time and will return to my rhumatologist to determine how to treat my RA.
Patient2 - The research done by my attorney and me shows a definite link between the use of Remicade and the development of pulmonary emboli. My pulmonary doc has told me that i can no longer take any meds, prescription or non-prescription, that carry the risk of pulmonary emboli because of the emboli developed as a result of taking Remicade. If i were you, I would not consider restarting the Remicade infusions.

Dj67mustang - Yes I have been on Remicade for 7 years for Ulcerative Colitus never had any side effects. My Colitus is in remission for the last 6 1/2 years my colonoscopies are excellent. My life is normal again, I go to work every day, go any where I want, I eat out and have an occasional drink and fast food and have no problems. As with any drug you have to choose what is good for you but if you are confident in your infuser and have a good relation ship with your doctor you should not hesitate to use this drug...the alternatives stink.
Dj67mustang - Another thing to rememeber when taking this drug is to get your flu shot 2 weeks after your infusion during the flu season. Also if you feel your self getting a cold get to your primary immediately so that you can be treated and not have these lingering effects.
