ITCHING!! Holy cow!! I am weaning myself off seroquel, and as soon as I dropped 25mg, I broke out in a 24hr full-body itch!
I'm weaning myself off it because the cardiac side effects were awful!! Racing heart, high blood pressures, shortness of breath... I gave it a good two months, and the cardiac effects got worse instead of better. Now the itching... unbearable!!
Mollix - Hi,
How long did your itching take to stop? I have just come off Seroquel 5 days ago and am itching like CRAZY! I would love to know how long this torment will last. Seroquel is a bad drug in my opinion.
Kiamc3 - I am wondering the same: how long does it take for the itching to subside when stopping seroquel. I have been off of it now for about 9 nine days and the itching is unbearable. Has anyone tried or know of anything to counteract the itching other than going back on seroquel which is not an option for me...HELP!!! ANYONE!!!
Scotshunni1 - I am the same didnt realise it was the seroquel that was causing the itching i looked online to see if anyone else felt like this and was surprised to see there was mine started under my buttocks and tops of my thighs then spread to all over my body i have stopped taking them 5 days ago the itching s stil there but not as intence hopefully it will pass soon
Phlebotomistchick - I was on Seroquel for five years at 400mg. I recently decided to stop because I have a heart problem, and not only did the Seroquel worsen it but it caused me to almost go into full kidney failure. I weened for two months and 11 days ago I officially stopped all doses. I am have debilitating nausea and horrific headaches every day, full body itching (especially arms, feet, legs and butt...gross, I know), averaging one to two hours of sleep a night, super watery eyes and a lot of sneezing. Anybody else? Does anyone know how long it will be like this? I can't function this way at all.
Caution - Anyone with heart problems should NOT take Seroquel! It is not worth the risk. My fiance has heart problems, ICD/Pacemaker. He was prescribed Seroquel XR for Bi polar disorder. It worked for that but cause severe problems, tachycardia, low blood pressure, kidney malfunction. I had looked it up on the net prior to his taking it, there are alot of warnings against people with heart trouble taking Seroquel. I contacted the cardiologist, the dr. felt his pace maker offset any arythmia problems it did not. His heart was racing at 145 bpm and he had to be cardioverted. We are still dealing with the low bp and kidney effects after his not taking it for over a month now. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG IF YOU HAVE HEART TROUBLE. It should be banned!
Sammi001 - I was put on quetiapine 3 years ago, 400 mg a day. I had gone into renal failure, and lost a substantial amount of memory during my coma. as a result, i had panic attacks, and thus the quetiapine. i asked my doctor several times to help me plan my withdrawl, however he refused. Finally, after reading all the bad effects on the body, I went to a psychiatrist. He also declined to help me stop, stating once you have a panic attacks, you always will. I am a diabetic with a great deal of trouble keeping my sugars normal. Finally, my psychiatrist agreed, and over a period of 6 weeks, i am done with quetiapine. I am 3 weeks free, and i cannot sleep, i itch like crazy. Strangely, my sugar levels have levelled out. I began sleeping more than 2 hours a few days ago, what a relief. I have not had a panic attack, and am learning to cope with my memory loss, which i could not do while on quetiapine. What i have learned is that doctors dont seem to care about the bad side effects drugs give you. If you are on this drug, you need to be your own advocate, get medical assistance to do it. Its bad for you, and the effects can be life long. My insane psychiatrist wanted to put me back on quetiapine to help with the sleep issue.. what a nut. Get off this med, see if you can cope, and if not, try some natural methods, meditation. Remember, not all doctors have your best interests in mind. Choose a direction thats best for you. I was told the itch can last for about 3 months. Take frequent showers, and use lots of moisture lotions.
Godlovesdavid - I have had itchiness for a long time after going off Seroquel. I did research about it and found that doing these following things really helped me with the itch:
1. drink lots and lots of water (this is almost immediate relief, good for when you need an emergency ease from the itch)
2. don't eat foods that release histamine. Histamines are the chemicals in your body that Seroquel deals with; you can do research about this on Google. Foods to avoid include alcoholic beverages (especially beer), anchovies, avacados, fermented foods such as pickled or smoked meats, sauerkraut, mushrooms, cheeses (especially aged or fermented cheese such as parmesan, blue and Roquefort), dried fruits such as apricots, dates, figs, prunes and raisins, processed meats such as sausage, hot dogs, salami, sardines, smoked fish such as herring, sour cream, sour milk, buttermilk, yogurt, soured breads, such as pumpernickel, coffee cakes and other foods made with large amounts of yeast, spinach, tomatoes, vinegar or vinegar-containing foods, mayonnaise, salad dressing, ketchup, chili sauce, pickles, pickled beets, relishes, olives, bananas, chocolate, eggs, fish, papayas, pineapple, shellfish, strawberries, and tomatoes.
After a couple months of this you should start to feel better. If you do, gradually increase histamine-releasing foods in your diet to see if you get itchier.
3. seek the Lord Jesus Christ.
Godlovesdavid - Oh, and if you get panic attacks, lie on your bad flat and drink lots of water. I hear that psychiatric medicine are fake drugs based on made up illnesses. More info: [link removed]
