I am a 56-year-old male who took simvastatin 20 mg for 14 months back in 2002-2003. I developed tinnitus that was mild but interfered with my sleep. I stopped taking the simvastatin independently since I thought that the tinnitus might be related to the simvastatin. It took a toll on me for about a year, when I finally got used to the tinnitus and which subsided after some months after stopping the simvastatin. The tinnitus never completely went away. I thought that the tinnitus might also may have been related to an upper respiratory infection I had at the time that the tinnitus appeared, so wasn't sure that the tinnitus and simvastatin were related. Well, I changed doctors in 2003 and in October of 2007 I was put back on simvastatin 20 mg. I had no real change in my tinnitus after going back on the simvastatin, but after about 2 years, the tinnitus started to get worse. So 2 months ago I stopped taking the simvastatin again. The tinnitus has subsided a bit, but I have severe insomnia now. Some of the insomnia may be due to the tinnitus symptoms but I think that the insomnia is due to more than just the tinnitus. A friend of mine said that he developed sleeping difficulty after being on Lipitor for a few months.
