I am Cody Millers mom ,the boy who died from Suicide while on Singulair for 17 days, I just wanted to say one thing to all of you that take the time to post.GO ONE STEP FURTHER CONTACT THE FDA and report to medwatch .The investigation needs evidence like your stories to help make informed decisions about this drug.The poorly orchestrated disclosing campaign that Merck had supposedly set out to accomplish in 2007, has obviously not reached the mass majority of people using this drug .Seeing now how many people did not make the connection to these HIDDEN AND DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS.Our child's pharmacy sheet that came with the medicine ,showed none of the updated side effects.They were added in April 2007,I filled the prescription in July 2007.Nothing had been disclosed until we put forth this effort to get the FDA's attention ,by asking the Senate and Congress to look into this matter.Go to your doctor and insist that they report YOUR SIDE EFFECTS to the company and the FDA.It is of the utmost importance.,Kate and Dave M.

I just finished my fda statement. Thank you again for getting the story out. You two have truely saved my marriage and ultimately my life. If I lost my wife or son and was still on this medication, there is no dought in my mind I would have acted on my suicidal thoughts. Your son should be very proud to have wonderful selfless parents who are helping other families to not have to go through the same pain you go through every day. Cody was a lucky boy to have great parents who care. You saved my life. I have been off Singulair for three days and I am allready starting to feel more like my old self. Kate, after I spoke with you sunday morning, my headache was soo bad and my blood pressure shot up to 154/100, I thought I was going to stroke. My wife drove me to the ER and we ran lab tests and did an EKG. Everything normal. I quess it was Singulairs way of trying to let me know it had a hold of my mind just one last time. I will do everything I can to let others know what you and I have painfully lived through. Allready spoke to the local pharmacist and will be going to our local TV crews to see if they will do a story here. Love, Doug

Jimandjeni - Dear Millers, I filed my statement w/ the FDA on behalf of my son today as well. It breaks my heart to hear about your son and all the stories of the children and adults suffering from this drug including my own. He is 10 and committed a self harming act on 3-26-08 and I had already made him an appointment w/ his dr. for it and two days later was alerted to all these links to Singulair we immediately stopped him from using Singulair and plan on still taking him to speak w/ a child psychiatrist but yesterday it seemed as though we had our son back he was happy and even got out of the house and engaged himself w/ the other kids in the neighborhood. I can not thank you enough and hope that the FDA and Merck does right by you all and all the other families suffering.

I am incredibly sorry for the loss of your son, Cody. I believe he is an angel who will save my son and countless other people from this drug. Thank you for passing on info about the FDA. I filed my report immediately after I heard the news last Thursday. I plan on going to the media as well. I wish we could have saved your son and the others we have lost. Kagator - I posted yesterday and still have goose bumps about the "same" story I continue to read on this message board. I appreciate your cause and am fully on board. I have already spoken to my daughter's pediatrician (3/28) and they were adamant that we continue with Singulair. Thanks to your advice, I'll go one step further and demand they report her side effects to the FDA. Incidentally, I have not given her Singulair since Thursday night and I have noticed positive changes in her mood. I am now on a crusade to educate myself on the side effects of all of her other maintenance meds.
I want to personally thank you for helping to save my child! Your son did not die in vain.
Flindy - Ive have done my fda report,and am working closely with my sons doctor to report this.They said they needed proof things are changing off of singulair ,so we are doing daily emails as each day things get better.We were in a very very dark place with terrible issues of depression,which at age 12 he was hospitalized with.We see a leading pulomanary doc at a world renound ped hosp.Maybe my question of how he did not know about this is making him work with me and not blow me off.Your going public has changed our lives and it has only been 10 days.This weekend he went for sibling weekend at my others sons college.He hasnt left my house in 2 years,and more importantly i knew he could handle it.thank you thank you thank you

A few months ago when I heard about Singulair and the new evidence on side effects, I cried for a week. My daughter, who luckily survived this and just turned 16, was also as shocked and upset. Finally we had an answer to the last 4+ years of our life. No one doctor or therapist put it together. My daughter was taking this medication for over 4 years and went into this slow depression, delusional stories, not sleeping, cutting, constant suicidal thoughts and wanted to act on them. We went to several therapists, she was sent to different ones because they could not figure out her behavior. She went to an outpatient mental health facility and finally a year ago I had to commit her to an inpatient facility to save her life. I saved her life with no help from a doctor or therapist. The facility insisted I put her on psychotrophic drugs to help her, I refused to put her on more medication and I stopped giving her Singulair on my own. Then Child Protective Services got involved to try and force me to give her more dangerous medication. I fought them so hard just to keep custody of my daughter over this that I am so worn out emotionally. The last many years have been one big blur in "saving my daughter." Over a year later off of Singulair, she is great and I have kept her in therapy because were are scared to death not being able to figure out the cause of the severe depression. Now we know and can truly start to heal the wounds left for a lifetime. Several months later, I had received an email from her school teacher saying what a joy she was to have in class and that my daughter seemed like a completely different person and he couldn't understand it but wanted me to know. This was the real her but had been lost in all the years taking Singulair. If one person had warned me of the effects, I would never have given it to her. Now I see how truly lucky I am to still have her. Thank you so much for insisting that something be done. I couldn't get anybody would listen to me - I was so desperate that I tried to get on two talk shows for help. What is even more shocking in reading others side effects is that someone had epilepsy, my daughter also had a few incidents that again the doctors couldn't figure out. Many tests later, they said she was fine. She has no longer had any type of seizure but I have no idea if there is long term damage. For over 4 years, we were treated so badly by doctors, school nurses and so many people because nobody would believe me when I kept telling them "this is not normal teen behavior." Thank you again everyone for speaking up and I will report to the FDA immediately.
So sorry for the pain this tiny medication has caused everyone.
Swaldsmith1 - You people are completly crazy apparently you aren't parents blaming a medication for your childs depression thats absolutly oblivious to the obvious no wonder the child commited suicide.
