Singulair Zyrtec, Different Companies, Medication, Chemical Composition, Organic Chem

SINGULAIR AND ZYRTEC SAME MEDICATION made by different companies. Be careful!
Proj2501 - Singulair = Zyrtec? I beg your pardon. They are definitely NOT the same drug. For info on Singulair's chemical composition, go here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montelukast) and for Zyrtec go here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cetirizine). Any first year Organic Chem student can tell you that C35H36ClNO3S does not equal C21H25ClN2O3 !!
Sing - What makes you say they are the same medication? Zytec is an antihistamine and Singulair is a leukotriene blocker. They may both negatively affect your child, but they are not the same med.
Frightenedmother - Forgive me, I am not a chem student. Heard this on CNN money, they were talking about the suicide warnings of Singulair and that Zyrec was same, but OTC medication and that it has been given no warning by the FDA. Forgive my ignorance.
Criss78 - I only noticed the change in my sons behavior & complainig of not feeling well while taking singulair. He was taking zyrtec for over a year before that and never had any issues that we could see. Thank God he didn't have any issues before with any other meds he was on. This has been a lesson learned I'll be sure to read all side effects and whatch any changes closely in myself and all family.
Proj2501 - My apologies for sounding somewhat condescending (among other things). I just get annoyed when someone takes a statement that they hear (Singulair and Zyrtec are the same medication but made by different companies) and do not take a few minutes to check it out on the Internet FIRST - BEFORE posting it and spreading it as gospel. Be skeptical. Be alert - the world needs more "lerts". The same goes for those chain letters and such. People never send me any because they have learned that I will check the facts first ( and they are almost always inaccurate). I am taking both Singulair and Zyrtec at the same time now so that would be an overdose if they were the same drug. Especially since OTC drugs are often just weaker versions of the prescription versions (example: Aleve is just a weaker version of Naproxen. I laugh at that "8 hours strong" tag line - such bull. If people took more pills more often than that they would come into the range of Naproxen Rx and risk burning a hole in their stomach and I speak from experience there.
Zsmom - Can you give more info? To my knowledge Zyrtec is an antihistamine and Singulair a leukotriene inhibitor. They target different substances in the body. I looked online and saw that Zyrtec is made by McNeil and Singulair by Merck. Are they subsidiaries of the same parent company?
