My son has been on singulair for 14 months, the last 4 I've been concerned daily that something was not right, and that it was making him sick, the Doctor basically said that it doesn't have many side effects, and that my son seemed healthy enough to him, I just had this gut feeling every time I gave him a tablet, that it wasn't the right thing to do, for the last 4 months he had been complaining so many times a day I lost count, that he felt sick, his appetite reduced, he started waking up with pins and needles, he has concentration problems (more than other 3 1/2 year olds as we do speech therapy and the therapist say's his concentration is less than other children his age), he isn't full of life and energy like other children his age, we had a few issues with him being pushy shovy, he just didn't seem very happy lately, and always wants cuddles from me, mainly him saying he felt sick all the time was my main concern and he started saying his head hurt. Then I read this site, and read that manyof these symptoms have been experienced by other mum's with their children on singulair. So I took him off, that was 10 days ago, I read that the bi-products can be out of your system by 72 hours, after 2 days he didn't once tell me he felt sick anymore (which was amazing and such a relief to me), his appetite increased, he hasn't once woken up with pins and needles and calling for me cause it hurts, he definatley has more energy, and is much happier overall. I also believe that because he felt sick for so long that his immune system had been weakend, and feeling sick daily probably has made him a bit stressed, both of those problems, resulting in him getting shingles. Rare in children, and stress related. The Doctor said it was the youngest age he'd ever seen himself with a case of shingles, and I full believe that it was due to his weakened immune system because of the side effects of Singulair. But thankfully he is doing much better overall, and the first day I decided not to give him another Singulair tablet, I felt so relieved and less stressed myself!
