Singulair Steroid Inhalers, Asthma Remedy, Style Choices, Qvar, Flovent

Many of you may be overreacting. I've been taking Singulair for a couple of years now and it does a fantastic job controlling my asthma. I have noticed no side effects. Except for springtime and fall, I don't even take the light steroid inhalers, like Qvar or Flovent, any more. My albuterol (now ProAir) use has cut down dramatically. I'm a 40 year old, becoming-obese male, and have physical issues I could complain about, but rest assured they are not side effects from Singulair. Rather they're side effects from my life style choices that I need to own up to and fix. Bottom line, based on my experience, Singulair is a great allergy and asthma remedy for adults like me. I can't offer any experience or opinion regarding childrens' safety, so won't comment on that. Good luck.

Flindy - Well glad your experiance with singulair is positive,we realize some people may have no problems with this drug,they are the lucky ones,for i think we agree it does work well for asthma and allergies.Those of us who have suffered the ravages of the side effects or the almost 1000 suicides attributed to this drug are not over reacting, we are warning Buyer Beware.You can read the reports to the fda and know this drug is not safe for everyone

Crmpls - I accept your concerns. I just don't want a witch hunt to take the one drug off of the market that has been so successful at almost eliminating my symptoms. Selfish as it may be, there are so many drugs that work for so many people, but not for me. Serevent - sent me to the hospital for heart palp's. Claritan - sent me to the hospital as my dr thought I was having an infarction and we later learned I am sensitive to Loratidine (sp?), the active ingredient in the drug. In my mind, those are some real killers. Singulair has been most effective and, perhaps just for me, no side effects.

Averagejane - They're not overreacting, they're just no you :o) On must take care not to marginalize folks that have truly suffered. We have no way of knowing another's experiences. I had the most amazing success with singulaire, it was THE wonder drug for me. It worked when nothing else did and I had tried everything that came out for 40 years. At about 5 months into treatment I had physically degraded to a state where I was unable to walk down the stairs by myself or lift myself from a sitting position. It was like my life force was draining from me, it was strange and upsetting that I should get ill just when I should be feeling so great because Singulaire was working! I did not attribute the loss of health to this amazing drug, because it was amazing, but my doctor did. I'm very thankful he realized what was happening. It took me almost 5 months to get back most of my strength and over a year to be myself again. The silver-lining is that some of the good effects of Singulaire lasted. I know it's a leukotriene blocker, I just wish they'd figure out what else it does so they can limit the mechanism of action to positive effects.

Aldenham7 - It is great to hear this drug works for a lot of people. Unfortunately my son was one of the many who suffered as a result of the side effects. The medical authorities who issue this drug to patients should ensure they are properly prepared to look out and ask questions to patients and parents to ensure this drug is suitable for that particular patient. Had my son's hospital consultant asked us any questions in any of the three years he was on Singulair then we may have realised sooner that Singulair was the root of the problems we were experiencing. However any questions I asked along the way I was promptly told it was "nothing to do with any medication he is taking". My son's behaviour was verging on suicidal and we had no understanding as to why. Thank goodness for the internet as I would dread to think what could have happened had I not googled Singulair and seen all these postings. I am just saddened to think of all the children and adults on Singulair currently who are experiencing these side effects and have not as yet linked them to Singulair.
