Okay - I have been on whatever the generic for topamax is since Dec. for migraines. I am 47 and my migraines keep getting worse. The Dr. told me about tingling and possible problems with speech. I had the tingling, it was annoying, but since the migraines were subsiding I thought I would deal with it. At 100 milligrams, I was not having a speech problem ( I am a theatre professor - acting is my specialty ). Soda tasted weird, but I don't really drink it , so I wasn't concerned. I was not told that my mouth would taste like I was holding pennies in it! Everything tastes horrible, I have to keep gum in my mouth at all times and I feel like I constantly have dragon breath. I was still getting migraines a I few times a week , so the doctor upped the dose to 200 mg. My semester ended and I was cast in a short play. Normally, I pride myself on being a quick study. If needed, I can step into a role with minimal rehearsal. After three weeks, I still could not learn my lines. I am devastated. When I looked online, speech problems is a side effect, as well as " WORD RETRIEVAL"!!! I called my doctor immediately. She is out of town till today - but I want off. I have been in tears since last week. This has been the only medicine that has gotten rid of my migraines, but it is messing around with my mind as well.
