I had my first rotator cuff surgery 10/2003 and then developed frozen shoulder. Vicodin did the trick and I got up to 14 pills a day and taking ambien. My doctor almost fell off his chair when I told him I was addicted. He had me follow a schedule to wean off. It was hell, skin crawling, sweating, anxiety, mood swings too, but I did it. I finally broke from it. Then in 12/2007 I had a car accident (whip lash and low back injury) developed terrible headaches, 3 months later, I torn my same rotator again and had surgery. Back on vicodine from 1 to 5 pills a day for one year. The Vicodin did wonders for me, upped my mood, happy, thoughts were clear, could function normal. No pain. Could even sometimes do some cleaning around my home, shop, take care of business. Then my other shoulder became injured from over compensation.
Found out I have limited space within my shoulder structure and causes me to develop injuries easier then the average person. Planned for surgery for that shoulder, did lab work and found out my liver panel was high, white blood cells elevated, creatinine and vitamin D (low). Had symptoms of constipation on and off for months, now have diarrhea on and off, chills, recently lost 10 lbs for loss of appetite some nervous feeling in my stomach. Surgery delayed 2 weeks. Told to cut down on vicodin. Taking 1 pill a day to get by. Follow up to GI doctor on Monday. Then fix my shoulder up. What kind of pain med can I take now? So sorry I got addicted again. Just want quality of life back and to return to work.
