Yasmin Leukemia, Loss of Libido, Platelet Count, Bloat, Dermatologist
Posted over a year ago
Have any of you developed Leukemia after taking Yasmin? Or do you know some one who has developed it and they just happened to be taking it at the time? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Cybil75 - My best friend found out through a routine physical that her platelet count was severely low. Very scary. Her doctor recommended her getting off Yasmin and said that he knew of several women who had this issue. I myself am getting off of it as I think it's causing a bizarre rash on my ankles (I just thought it was ezcema, dermatologist says it's not. We'll see.) and also headaches, bloat, loss of libido. :(
Saraheharrison - Check out the Mayo Clinic on the side effects for the two key components for Yasmin - ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone - it makes for scary reading

Bridgie14 - I just read some posts and I am wondering if Yasmin is the cause for my sudden health issues. I am 30 and in the last year I have been diagnosed with ITP which means I have chronic low platelets that is now deemed an auto-immune disease. After this happened I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia which is also an auto-immune disease that affects the absorption of B-12. It all started when I went for my yearly physical and I mentioned to my doctor that I was always tired. She ran some blood work and called me to say I had low platelets. They thought it had to be a lab error so they had me go to my primary care dr. where more blood work was done. This solidified that the tests were correct and I in fact had low platelets. Over the next couple of months I had a bone marrow biopsy to check me for Leukemia which thankfully was negative. Then, I had a CT scan to check my spleen which was also functioning normally. I kept explaining how tired I was and so they checked me for epstein bar this came back as negative but showed I had had it sometime in the recent past. In addition to all of this I have noticed for the past several years my hair is nowhere near as thick as it used to be and I have had night sweats, and leg cramping. I wanted to mention that I was told that the red marks you see on your ankles may actually be called petechia. My hematologist told me that it is a sign of low platelets. When I had asked a dermatologist he didn't know what they were and thought it was a reaction to lotion or soap. I am going to look into getting off of this pill. The last year has impacted my life so much that if it could really fix my health issues by stopping this medication I would be overjoyed. If anyone else knows about this medication affecting platelets, B12, or hair loss can you please post. Thanks for the information.
