Yasmin Pyschiatrist, Weird Problem, Lexapro, Prozac, Depression

I've been on Yasmin for years now, but recently switched to the generic Ocella. I'm trying to figure out if Yasmin or Ocella is causing my depression. I'm 25 and just recently my depression has been horrible. I've been on Lexapro for years to help with Anxiety/Depression, but never had problems like this before. My psychiatrist just switched me to Prozac. I've been on it 4 weeks and it's not doing anything. The reason I think my depression might be linked to the Yasmin is because the 2 weeks before I get my period I'm insanely depressed, borderline suicidal. Then, the day I get my period, I'm ok. Anyone else have this weird problem?

Bety - Hi, It is definetly the birth control pills that makes your depression worse. I had the worst time of my life due to using yasmin which caused a severe depression. I am studying clinical psychology and I can differentiate that it was something sooo different and wierd. plus my psychiatrist told me that what I lived through was definetly a drug toxication caused by birth control pill. you definetly have to stop yasmin. It took more than 6 months for me to heal physically and psychologically. Swimming, yoga, psychotherapy, friends, my family helped me a lot during this healing process. Trust in yourself that you will get over this but you have to make an effort. I am sure you will find the right strategies to create your own healing process. get well soon, b.

Vivimarti - I'm a therapist and though I'm not a medical professional do know that all birth control pills do have an impact on mood as they affect the hormone levels of the body. Since you are already taking a mood stablizer you may need to try something different as it sounds that this med is not working for you. You should never continue taking any medication that makes you suicidal. Talk with your gyno and psychiatrist and make a change quickly before you end up hurting yourself or someone else.

Ktb3421 - The Yasmin did not impact my depression, if anything it helped. But as soon as I got switched to the Ocella I hit rock bottom. I was crying everyday over the stupid stuff...(Example: I would start crying because my husband forgot to take the meat out of the freezer) and I couldn't stop crying once I started and I just felt horrible until I stopped the Ocella.

Mbraun010781 - I have been on Ocella for 2 1/2 years now. The only side effects are moodswings. I've had nothing outta the norm. for any birth control pill. I just went off the pill 2 days ago, and now my heart/pulse keeps skipping beats! Its very strange. Its been going off and on since the day I stopped taking it, and am taking prenatals that my dr perscribed me. Yes, we're wanting to have a bigger family:) Do you think the skipped heart beats are from going off Ocella, as a side effect?
