Hey everyone it's Kay21 here and I just wanted to post my 3 month off Yasmin update. Because stopping the pill is a hard decision, I figured we should all post are updates here to help/support those who are planning to stop or who have recently stopped Yasmin.
I have been off of Yasmin since April 17. As some of you already know, I was experiencing horrible side effects while on Yasmin for 3 years (particularly stomach problems, vaginal dryness, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure and heart rate and anxiety).
The first 1 month off of Yasmin was okay. In fact, I felt the best I had ever felt in a while. My blood pressure and heart rate decreased and the migraines and muscle cramps went away. But when I hit the 2 month (8 week) mark, I felt HORRIBLE. I was severely depressed and anxious. I was crying all the time and felt a severe sense of DOOM! The physical symptoms also started to become problematic. The acne increased and I started growing more facial hair. The worse symptom, however, was that I started losing a ton of hair. I would lose stray hairs all day (probably about 200 a day). Since I have hit the three month mark, the hair loss has gotten MUCH WORSE! Now I am losing CLUMPS of hair all day. I have seen several doctors about this. Some say it's because of stress and a few (a derm, GYN and endo) say that hiar loss is common after stopping bcp. I have already loss about 1/3 of my hair.
I am also really concerned, because I have not had a period since April 22. So my doctor has put me on provera for 10 days to induce a period.
For those who have stopped Yasmin, what have your symptoms been (i.e. increased acne, weight gain, anxiety, etc.). Has anyone experienced hair loss? How long did it take to get a period???

Yasminhater82 - OH man. I just stopped it but it has only been two days and you are worrying me. My doctor said i shouldnt lose my hair or have any terrible side effects, so i didnt feel too nervous about it. but now...crap....Im sorry no one has said anything....i have only been on it for five months and i hate how it makes me feel. im getting married so i figured it was no big deal to stop the pill completely. i have been on other birth control pills for years. 7 to be exact but yasmin only for five months. i hope i dont fair as bad as you. im so sorry. i feel so badly for u. im so terrified now. why do they put us on these things if the willl kill us!!!! who will sleep with us now if all our hair falls out!!!!
Ladyelizabeth - I quit the yasmin and started zovia about one month ago.I was having horrible emotional symptoms,wanted to cry everyday.I was taking them to help symptoms of early perimeno,I am only 31!So when I started feeling worse,I knew something was wrong.Well,I am now feeling much better emotionally,but am also losing hair,can anyone tell me when this will stop?I was on Yasmin for 5 and a half months.
Cindy1 - I hope your hair has grown back I need help my hair is so thin now I hardly have any and my hair use to be soooooooo thick I stopped taking Yasmin 4 months ago Does anyone know does it grow back

Beantown - I've definitely lost about 1/4 of my hair in the past few months -- i've been off of Yasmin for 5 months now. I'm SO happy I'm off of it!
I've posted in other threads here about the horrible side effects I experienced while on it.
Since being off of it: The hair loss, weight gain (about 10 lbs, with NO change to diet or excer.)
every other nasty side effect has vanished... but I hope all of my hair doesn't...

I have only just been off Yasmin for 3 months now, my periods are regular, but my side effects from going off it include: weight gain (8kg in 3 months), water retention, depression and mood swings, pins a neddles? I am hoping I will return to my normal self after 6 months... i have not suffered from hair loss (but now will look out for it?) I have been on Yasmin for 5 years and decided my body needed a much needed break, but its tough when the side effects for me going off have been wrse than being on it!
ps. I am so glad I found this site to read and know others are going through similar problems whilst trying to do what best for SELF! :)
Westphillygal - I stopped taking yasmin about a month ago. I had been taking it for about 7 years. I liked it better than ortho or ortho-lo (which sent me spinning into severe depressions). I think I am naturally prone to being sad, but the hormones make everything more pronounced. I have been diagnosed with PCOS due to facial hair, which is why I have been on the pill for so long. Anyway, my husband and I will be trying to have children in a little while so I decided to stop the pill. Now I am having slight pain in my abdomen. It doesn't hurt so much as I can feel my uterus and ovaries when I sit down. LIke they are inflamed or something.
Has anyone else experienced this? Should I see right to my doctor right away or see if it goes away on it's own?
Kellymichel - I'm not the only one! I stopped taking Yasmin 3 months ago, I was on it for 7 years and loved it but I knew it was time to stop and get my tubes tied. I bled for the 1st 2 months and now I have a regular period (started today) however...the past 3 weeks have been horrible. I have very painful heartburn, bloating etc., I can tell I am losing hair (especially in front), my facial hair is crazy and I all of the sudden have painfull acne. Not to mention I am very MOODY! I am seeing my doctor on Friday and today I went to a nutrition shop and they said it sounds like estrogen overload. Apparently we get all kinds of synthetic estrogen in our bodies from foods and even plastic bottles along with our own levels. They said the first key to aid in anything basically is detoxify our digestive system. Then restore balance. So, I bought a few things and I'm going to give it a try and see my doctor too. This acne and hair loss can't go on for too long right? Otherwise wouldn't we have heard about it before we went off Yasmin if it was that big of a problem?? Did anyone out know this could happen?
Charleym - I stopped taking Yasmin about 5 months ago and since then my periods - while regular for the first two months - have been irregular and extremely light (very unusual for me). I have also had significant weight gain and greasy hair and complexion. I am very annoyed that I wasn't warned of these potential side affects before taking it and before coming off of it. I'm so glad I haven't experienced hair loss or any other more serious side effects - I think that would be the last straw! What's a girl to do? Don't want children yet, but I want to be intimate with my man. Condoms don't cut it when you've been in a relationship for over 5 years and they haven't really developed the male pill for confident use yet. I tried the implant (it was a disaster), I've tried the injections. The concept of the coil scares me half to death and the four other makes of pill I've been on had far worse side effects than Yasmin.
Nikolovska1 - Hey there, can anyone tell me a positive experience when going off Yasmin?
I have been on the pill for a little over a year, I felt great with it since a week ago when I noticed dark brown discharge which varies in the flow (never happened to me, not even the first months on the pill). I decided stopping it, for at least a half year. But you guys really scared me. I didn't expect such side effects, especially not the weight gain... Can anyone give me an advice what to do?
Catunited08 - Hi, in reply to the last post - I think it's fair to say that any of the side-effects people experience when either taking / stopping taking Yasmin can be attributed to other causes too and they may or may not be the real reason they are experienced. Everyone is different, and if you are experiencing undesirable effects while you are taking it, you should definitely stop, anything that happens as a result of stopping it can only be temporary and should return to normal eventually; personally i think my hair loss must be the result of something else due to the length of time that is has continued. it hadn't actually occurred to me that the weight gain could have been due to stopping the pill until i read the posts on here...I think because I was expecting to lose a little weight once I stopped taking it, I was still kind of waiting for that to happen ( but I don't think it's going to!) I'm definitely going to speak to my doctor before I decide what to do and I would recommend anyone else do the same thing...

Tpurcell1 - I stopped taking Yasmin 2 and half months ago, I was only on it for 5 months and the side affets were crazy. I have never had any type of health issues or symptoms like heart palpiatations,anxiety attacks, stomach cramps, horrible hormonal migraines, high blood pressure..the list goes on, along with extremely moody and over emotional..so i had to stop it. I was previously using ortho for 7 years, but wanted to try something different because ortho was giving me migraines and weight gain. I had heard that yasmin had an ingredient in it that help manage water weight gain and was great. They were wrong!! Since being off of it, I have been having stomach pains, some hair loss, over lubrication the first month, (because i am no longer getting the level of hormones which counteracted that) which grossed me out! I thought something was wrong with me until I did some research. I've gained like 10 lbs, and I havent changed my workout routine or my diet, so Im guessing its water weight gain like 2 fold! Hopefully this will level out over the next few months..also alot of boating and still moody, but not as bad as when on the pill. Im just gonna have to stick it out until my body gets more back to normal. I would NEVER recommend yasmin to ANYONE. This BC should be pulled off the market along other meds that are dangerous,but since pharmacuetical companies make so much money off the health industry..im sure there will be more harmful meds produced. I hope I dont lose more hair!! I cant believe this!
Kheart17 - OMG, these responses are really scary. I was on Loestrin 24 for about a year but recently started getting naseous, tired, and hungrey all the time. I tried Yasmin for 3 weeks and I was feeling naseous every day so I stopped it 2 days before the end of the pack. I'm scared though about your comments.
Biga1 - P.S. I forgot to mention in my previous post that I also had PCOS, which is why I needed to start taking it to regulate my period. Yasmin did help with that, & since I stopped taking it, I havent' had any cysts in any of my last check-ups, and my period has been pretty regular at 28-30 days per cycle. Again, I did become pregnant about 3 months after stopping Yasmin, & micarried at 8 weeks, so I don't know if that helped the cysts stay away or not. My symptoms (headaches, nausea, loss of energy, anxiety, etc.) are all extremely persistent this month, so I think I'm gonna call my doctor to get checked out.
Kab - Hi. This is my second month off Yasmin and its HORRIBLE!!!!!!! I got my period about 2 days late (the first month, it was a week late) and now this period is so painful, i can't sleep at nights. I even get indigestion! I am so angry about the side effects and was secretly hoping I would be pregnant as soon as I came off the pill. No such luck!
Angel123 - I stopped yasmin about 2 weeks back as i had horrible side effects like stomach pains, vaginal itching after intercourse, dark medicine like smelling urine and gstritis when i was on it.
So i thought stopping yasmin would make me feel better. But, after stopping my abdominal pain became worse, have severe gastritis and my lower abdomen also hurts. I am not sure if i got IBS symnptoms. I never had gastritis or IBS before. Even my stomach looks bloated now. I am not sure if this is common. But its driving me crazy!! Please let me know if any one has similar probs....going to my gp tomm...
Cai - I was on Yasmin for 4 years. Off 2 months now. My period was normal the 1st month. But this month is late and still have not come yet. My reason to get off is because me and my husband are ready for a baby. Just tested and is negative. My side effects are bloating, small weight gain, abdominal pain, hot flashes, lower back pain and uncomfortable having intercourse.
Gigohead - I was taking Yasmin for over 6 months to regulate my periods and to get my progesterone levels balanced. It seemed to work. I lost a lot of weight while on the pill and it did wonders for my sex drive. My tubes are tied so I didn't need it for protection. Now that I'm feeling better and lighter. I do want to come off them, but it has been tough. My breasts hurt like crazy, I feel my hair is falling out in batches and my chin is hairy too. I'm miserable. I am hoping the effects wear off shortly.
Cynwong - I was on yasmin for 1.5y to regulate my hormones and for the most part loved it. I lost weight on it and didn't have a single break out. However, I started to have pre menopause syndromes from the pill and and decided to give my body a break to see if the hormones are better (I didn't consult my doc first which i'm regretting)
So, it's been 3 weeks and the first 2 were fine where I had my period and body seemed ok. This week, I'm experiencing very tender breasts and horrible bloating. The bloating is so bad that when I walk, I'm cramping. I'm hoping I don't experience more weight gain or any of the hair loss and that my body calms down in the next few months.
Kellygr5 - I was on it for 7 years. I didnt even think about side effects until i started to think about coming off of it. I relized that sex drive has died, constipation all the time, and probably alot more that i didnt notice. Now that i have stopped i have gained 4 to 5 pounds. I have never had a problem controlling my weight but i couldnt figure out what was going on. My hair is greasy and i hope it doesnt start to fall out. I have noticed that i am lazier and more depressed. Not so bad that it is a problem but i am usually all smiles. Other than that i am scared of my first period. I just stopped like 4 weeks ago and it should be coming soon. Does anyone know if the weight gain stops or returns to normal after a while???
Joannethepan - Hi all. I stopped taking Yasmin 27 days ago (after taking it for just 12 weeks). 14 days after stopping I began to have the most sensitive boobs, worse than after giving birth...the symptoms increased:- including frequent urination (even waking during the night), feeling sick, metallic taste in my mouth, constantly hungry and feeling completely exhausted. All of these symptoms mirror the early stages of pregnancy but I have done two tests, both are negative (period is due tomorrow)......just wondered if anyone else has encountered these phantom pregnancy symptoms since stopping Yasmin. I would love to hear about it as I was convinced I was pregnant.
Szmom - I was on Yasmin for 5 months. At first it was great, minus the couple of days of nausea and headaches, but they went away after the first week. I gradually started to notice that my moods were getting worse.. I couldn't control my emotions anymore and so I decided to go off. I went off on July 23 and had my withdrawal bleeding three days later. I felt great right away, but around the two week mark I had very sensitive breasts, nausea, bloating and lots of gas. I also noticed my skin and hair becoming very greasy. However, all of it minus the greasy hair and skin, disappeared by the 3rd week. I had a reagular period which was one day late (but I've never been normal). I am now on my 8th week off and my period is due next week. However, for the last 3 days I have had mentrual cramps, can't sleep, nausea. I never have cramps except the day before or the day of my period. I did have unprotected sex while I was ovulating, but that was only a 8 days ago, so I doubt I would have symptoms of pregnancy this soon. Has anyone else had cramps after 2months? I haven't read anywhere that anyone has ever had this symptom without having their period.
Catmenrulz - Hello, I took yasmin for 2.5 years to regulate hormones and keep cysts away. 2 months ago I ran out and therfore didn't take anymore. Last month my period was fine it came a tad bit late but nothing big. This month I am nearly 3 days late and have horrible acne. I gained a significant amount of weight 15 lbs actually. I haven't changed anything about my diet or exercise. I'm thanking God that I didn't lose any hair but my period is M.I.A and being the worrywort I am, I'll probably stress my period away. anyone else have this problem?
Carriebarcelona - Hi, I stopped taking Yasmin four months ago (after taking an oral contraceptive for the last 13 years) and haven't had a period since. My stomach is really bloated, I've put on weight, my hair and skin is very greasy, I'm spotty, I'm argumentative, negative and I'm feeling really low and tearful. I tried stopping about two years ago but 'gave up giving up' and started taking them again as I just felt so awful.
I'm gonna go to the doctor I think as I don't know what to do. I want to get pregnant so I can't start taking them again.
It's reassuring to see others going through the same thing, I'm a bit annoyed that I wasn't warned about any of these symptoms by my doctor.

Escher123 - Hi, I came off Yasmin 2 months ago. I found while i was on Yasmin i was very snappy but since coming off the side effects have been horrific. I am crying and depressed one minute and the next I am eating everyones head off. To throw into the bargin, I am experiencing the worst cramps ever. 12 hrs straight of one continous cramp? Has anyone else had this sort of extremities?
Goldenbaby - I've stopped taking Yasmin about 2 months ago and I'm still waiting for my period to come. I want to get pregnant (I know I'm not, serveral tests, same results - negative). Anyway the doctor stated that it can take a while for the body to resume. On the good note, my estergen level has came back to normal, my progestrone is low but that should be if I'm not post ovulation. So that is normal. All my hormones are normal and the ultrasound came back perfect. So I'm just waiting to see when my period shows up. I love Yasmin, besides spotting most of the time on it, the other side effects worked for my body (cleared my skin up, less moody, lighter periods, etc). If it wasn't for trying to get pregnant I would still be on it. I took Yasmin for 2-3 years, the last 1.5 I took it continueous - which I think is why it's taking my body so long to have the first period off the pill.
Mprice424 - Hello..I took Yazmin for about 6 years until I decided to stop taking it on Feb of this year 2008. The first months I had teh same problem...a horrible hair loss and abad depression...I was desperated. I went to a naturopath, I have been on ultra strenght complex B that I take in the mornings before working out, and a daily multivatimin with extra Biotin that I take at nights. My hair started growing again and my mood was much better within a week after taking these suplements. Complex B plays an important role on hair, skin, nials and mood...and Biotin is the hair suplement. SO, try to don't be too anxious, take suplements, eat right, and you will feel much better. I have been off yazmin for 10 months and the only thing is that I still have the brown discharge right before the period. I got that when I started taking yazmin,now 10 months after stopping the pill, I still have it. But that is it.
Mprice424 - I forgot to mention about the weight gain..yes I experienced that..but if you continue with your regular eating habits, you weight will be back to normal in about 4 to 5 months. Or at least that is what happend to me. I tried to exercise a little more and actually now, 10 months after I have lost the weight I gain the first 2 months after stopping the pill plus 4 more pounds...so Everything seems to be getting back to normal...yes is not easy to be patient...but be all worried and anxious just make things worse.
Ambellina - I was on Yasmin for about a year and a half (bad memory, sorry) and I stopped taking it early 2008 and have gained almost 25lbs. It's so annoying! I can't tell any emotional side effects, but I definitely notice this annoying weight gain that feels like it happened overnight. Other than that, my period has been really irregular (but it was irregular before I was on the pill). My face has been breaking out a little more than usual, but the weight gain and bloating is the most dominant effect after stopping Yasmin. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon...
Ttb3 - i was put on yasmin for 2 months because i was hypoestrogenic and had not gotten a period for 9-10 months since i stopped nursing. i gained 11 pounds almost right away. i stopped taking the pill a month ago and i have not gone on the scale, but i am pretty sure that i gained more weight. i am depressed every morning because my clothes don't fit me anymore and i don't like how i like. how long will it take to lose the weight? is it permanent? no matter how much i work out, nothing has changed.
Awoolley - Hi. I stopped taking yasmin end of November, two weeks ago I started my period only lasted two days and since then I have been spotting every day, i this normal?. I feel bloated all the time, but as yet no hair loss.

I stopped taking yasmin the end of march08' because of having pretty much all of the symptoms as you all. After stopping yasmin I have experience a lot of hair loss, it is growing back now but taking plenty a vitamins will help alot. My hair loss is so worth it because as females we can always get extensions or even wear wigs. Now I am 95% back to normal. Oh and I was on yasmin for about 5yrs. Good Luck ladies and God Bless

I am 26 and got off Yasmin a year ago. I started taking it when I was 20. So five years of Yasmin. I noticed hair loss when I was actually taking Yasmin. About a month after I quit taking Yasmin I developed horrible anxiety. My anxiety attacks would get so bad that I actually thought about suicide. And I had never had anxiety in my life like this ever. Also, my skin totally changed as soon as I got off Yasmin. I now have horrible ACNE that won't go away or get better no matter what I do. And the ACNE is all over my face, chest and back. I will never get on birth control pills again because of all this that I have been going through since I quit Yasmin. It has been over a year and I am still waiting for my hormones to go back to normal!!!
22daisy22 - I stopped taking Yasmin about a month ago. I gained about 4 pounds, which I attributed to holiday overeating, but have been working out like crazy and watching my calories for the past 2 weeks and have only lost 1/2 pound. I've also been getting dizzy, had some weird stomach cramping, and had a LOT of very brown , gooey discharge a few days ago. I never imagined there would be side effects going off of Yasmin, because I really had no side effects when I went on it (other than a slightly decreased sex drive).
Nrntubbs - I only took Yasmin for two years after having my son in Dec 2005. I've been off of it for almost 8 months now and feel awful. I got off of it because I feel emotionally better off of it. Since stopping it, I've gained over 20 lbs and have not had a regular period. I've never had regular periods off birth control but this time is WAY worse. Every month I take hpts and of course they are negative. Since October I've only had two periods and both times just had brown discharge. I've had horrific cramps and headaches. When I talk to the nurse, she says its 'normal'.

Loulou2 - Was on Yasmin about 3 years and just stopped a few weeks ago to try to have a baby. The last 2 weeks Ive had continuous pain in my lower abs and lower back. Also pain during intercourse. Not pregnant and just saw a doctor today that said if it doesnt stop it could be an ovarian cyst. :( any advice to make me feel better....im freaked out now!
Kerry4840 - I was too was on Yasmin for 5 and half months and have come off it the last 2 weeks. At first it was brilliant - no weight gain, great skin, normal libido. After 14 yrs on Depo - started at 17 yrs old and I loved it but told I had to come off it if I want to have children within next 3 years. I tried Microgynon (7 months) which gave me bad acne. Diantte (3 months) which gave me migraines. After 4 months on Yasmin I started getting moody and depressed (not good after the previous year suffering from anxiety attacks - not related to the pill) really bad water retention, libido completely went and was feeling starving constantly but still I gave it another month and a bit and then came off it mid way through a pack as the bloating got so severe it was causing stomach cramps. Within 3 days I had a withdrawel bleed for 6 days, my stomach has gone down, within 2 weeks I have lost 5 pounds and do not feel as hungry, libido is back and im feeling great! To be honest I dont want to be on any pill but at the same time dont want to fall pregnant yet. I have now been given Cerazette which I will start when I get my next period and advised this is the closest I will get to the Depo which I was happy with. Anyone had similar experiences with trying all these different pills or has anyone tried Cerazette and what I am likely to expect?

I was on Yasmin from February 2005 until February 18th, 2009....so four years exactly. While I was on yasmin, there were no side effects...that I knew of. In April 2008 I started experiencing anxiety attacks, some so severe that I would have to take something to ease the intensity of it while having an attack. I would get extremely nauseated when having these attacks and my breathing was short and heart palpitated. I would pace until the attack passed which usually took about 30 minutes to an hour (an hour with a bad one). Anyway, I have been trying to figure out why I had these attacks and saw the doctor but he didnt seem to care much...(weird I know) my fiance just left for Iraq and I saw no reason to be on birth control anymore so I researched "side effects of getting off of yasmin" and came across this site as well as many others and after reading all of your symptoms I have had so many while being on yasmin that I never noticed or would have associated with my BC. After I read the side effects I thought about it and I had been having vaginal dryness during sex, HORRIBLE mood swings where I would get mad about nothing and raise hell and then cry and wonder "why was I so upset" and everything was fine again and like I said anxiety problems. Well I took myself off the yasmin feb 18, 2009 and it seems my anxiety has gotten WORSE!!! My mood and everything seemed great the first couple of days but after that I have felt so sick everyday with stomach pains, nausea, gas, bloating, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations CONSTANTLY...litereally. If this is the side effect of getting of the yasmin then oh my gosh when does it end??? Has anyone had my problem??? My doctor gave me some lorazapam to help with the panic attacks as needed for right now but I do not want to be addicted to some stupid drug the rest of my life....someone please help me if you have any advice or have had panic attacks since getting of yasmin....they are so bad they control my daily life and I have lost my happy go lucky personality....thanks so much!
Sparklebabe - Hi. I took Yasmin for 3months, and stopped taking it 2 weeks ago. I suffered a lot of side effects, like you guys. However, what made me come off it was the hair loss!!! I had fine hair anyway, so any excessive hair loss was VERY noticeable. My hair loss started a couple of weeks after starting the Yasmin (hard to pin point exactly when).
However, even though still shedding... I have seen regrowth! Just a bit, but enough to make me think it will all grow back in time. Body needs time to heal from this horrible pill. :-) I've been taking additional vits/minerals and praying a lot!!!

I am really wanting to get off bc because I feel like my body needs a break of six years of nonstop hormones. I also gained a lot of weight when going on birth control - about thirty pounds in six months. I used to be very small and now not so much any more. My appetite is out of control and I am so tired all the time. I am pretty much too depressed to do anything. I have found that lately I am pretty much unable to lose weight, even with proper diet and exercise. This has never, ever happened before. Before, losing weight has never been a problem for me when I did what I was supposed to. Now, even if I do exercise (a lot) and eat right I may lose a pound in two weeks if I'm lucky. I really don't have any emotional mood swings or anything like that. I just broke up with my boyfriend and would like to see if getting off this crap will make my appetite, and therefore figure, return to normal. I am sure part of the reason I am so depressed is because every time I look in the mirror I just think "Ugh" - what happened to me? I really, really would like to get off of this but I am so very worried about gaining MORE weight, growing a beard, having acne (my skin is perfect now), losing all of my thick, beautiful hair, wanting to kill myself, as it seems like most of you have experienced. I would just ask my doctor but generally I find them unhelpful and lacking compassion for their patients - a pretty much "it's not my problem" mentality. My mom and I have had the same experience with doctors of them dismissing our symptoms as imaginary and I don't think I could handle that one more time. I am really stuck here. Please help!
Freddie5 - hi everyone, I came off yasmin 5 months ago - i have regular periods but they are heavy (which is why i took yasmin in the first place). I don't have hairloss yet but I do have constant bloating and stomach cramps with permanant nausea? I also have facial fluff and acne - always had a perfect complexion in the past so this is very depressing. I feel rubbish most days and can't wait for it to pass. I came off yasmin to get pregnant and I hope it happens soon! Good luck to everyone.
Lauren699 - Hi after coming off Yasmin in Feb this year, my periods stopped completly and still havent come back. I went to the doctor to see what they would say and she said it was common and will evenutally come back. I researched Yasmin after that and found that all my symptoms are on here. i gained 5 pounds after coming of Yasmin and i am so angry about it.
Checka10 - Hello, I've been reading through these posts and it's just scary. I was on Yasmin for 3 years and recently attributed the drastic changs to my hair over the past 3 years to yasmin - my once spiral curly hair is now half straight/half wavy. I went off yasmin about a month ago and I'm now starting to experience the hair loss. I'm pretty much freaking out and am really frustrated. I'm hoping that my hair will eventually return to what it looked like a few years ago but I think that's just wishful thinking. I think I will have completely straight hair by the time I'm 30 (I'm 26) and it just makes me really sad. Anyways, I was just wondering how long the hair loss went on after going off yasmin. thank you!
Peppertaz - I was on Yasmin for about a year and a half and now it has been 5 months off and I am so glad I found this website because I knew my hair loss was excessive and due to something. I figured it was like after you have a baby, since the borth control pills trick your body. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how long it falls out and when you get back to normal. Problem with me is I think it was the Yasmin that helped my hair grow so long in the first place. I never have had long hair but while on Yasmin it grew longer than I have ever had it I am 38. It recently started becoming increasingly noticable in how much thinning was happening. My ponytail is so thin now but no balding spots just an overall thinning I do notice alot of baby hairs on my hairline and wonder is this normal and need to make sure I wont go bald!! I keep thinking it has to stop but dont want to wait too long before I do something about it. Any advice ? Anyone been off for longer with hope for me?
Fisher0317 - What an eye opening website! Like everyone else on here I hadn't attributed any of my "side effects" to coming off the pill. I saw my doctor for the first time in 2 years yesterday and talked to her after gaining 20lbs, of course she asked whats going on. I stopped taking Yas about a year ago and have since gained 20lbs, lost tons of hair, have had stomach problems (a dull, aching pain in my upper abdomen) and I've been really tired lately. I have seen a doctor meanwhile and have had my thyroid tested numerous times and everythings in check, but she never mentioned anything about these effects coming off the pill. This is scary because I asked to go back on it to regulate everything and we are going to see if that helps.. I'm kind of nervous about this now.. has anyone ever gone back on it? Did it help alleviate these symptoms?
Rosewin4 - I have been off this pill for 2.5 months and have gained 10 pounds of weight(first month 2 pounds, rest between last month and now), have acne on my
neck that's spreading to my face, and my cycle is insane I haven't had a proper period since going off of it. At first with the mood swings,2 weeks late
period that lasted 2 days, and weight gain, I thought I was pregnant. Now I am getting baby hair
down my hairline to my jaw...if I start growing acial hair I will loose it.
I have gone off of other pills such as OrthoTri and a generic of the same four years ago
(I was on this pill for 3) and I have never had all of these issues. I literally had all the symptoms of pregnancy at first(nausea, food cravings,
breast discoloration and sensitivity, mood swings ect), and the weight gain
causes me to appear as though I have a "bump". I have indigestion as well
in greater frequency, I have an ulcer already though. I also have been having
anxiety attacks I have had them before but am now getting them frequently,
where as before it would take a lot of stress to get that bad. My skin has
become very oily as well.
At first my blood pressure spiked but it has since returned to normal.
This pill must play merry heck with the hormones to be causing all of this
and as I said, I have been off the pill before and haveswitched a lot also,
none of them have done this to me. With such similar cases as these
perhaps they should stop selling this pill.

Frustrated08 - I stopped taking Yasmin at the end of November. I had been taking Yasmin for approximately 5 years. My husband and I want to have a baby. We were using condoms up until June so I could track my cycle. I got my period like normal in November, then it was 37 days until my next one. After that my periods were coming every 33 days. Since I was getting regular periods, my husband and I stopped using condoms. My last period was July 8 and I have not had one since. I have always had regular periods. I have taken 4 pregnancy tests (including 1 at the dr's office) and they were all negative. I had my annual exam at the gyno's last week and the doc said I wasn't pregnant and she blamed my weight gain on poor diet and lack of excersize. I haven't changed my diet at all and I excersize(a lot) on a regular basis. She gave me a prescription for progesterone and told me to come back in 2 weeks. When I first came off Yasmin I gained 10 pounds in 1 month. In the next 2 months I gained another 15 pounds. I have horrible mood swings and a constant lack of energy. The weight gain has made me depressed as I can't fit into any of my clothes any more. I also went to my regular doctor in may and she did blood tests on me because I was concerned about the weight gain. All the blood work came back fine and my doctor said the weight gain was due to my eating habits. I am really frustrated because no matter what I do I can't drop the weight, and now my period has stopped coming which makes it difficult when my husband and I want to have a baby. I wouldn't reccomend Yasmin to anyone!
Alo0182 - This is my second time to go off of Yasmin. I honestly prefer to just stay on it bc I feel normal when I am. I was dumb enough to get on the Depoprovera shot when i was 18 and every since the only thing that has regulated my weight has been yasmin. I got off of it for a year with my ex husband a few years back and the only thing I really had was the weight gain. I decided to get back on it and lost the weight right back and then some. Yasmin has a diuretic in it. I'm thinking of taking water pills or something to help with it. I've been off of it for about 2 to 3 months now and my second period is lagging. But I was told by my dr. that birth control isn't fully out of your system until a year or so. So Please be patient ladies and just try to seek alternatives as far as the weight gain goes. Women's vitamins are good too.
Tweeterkat - I am sooo happy to see this webpage. I went on Yasmin to help with my libido. As it was a single hormone pill I thought it would help with that as with the tri-cyclen pills, I had a nearly non-existant libido. I felt fine while on them, but didn;t really see any difference otherwise. My husband and I decided to have a second child so I came off the Yasmin in Oct. 2008. As I got pregnant immediately (as in two weeks!) when I came off the tri-cyclen pill, I almost expected the same with the Yasmin. I got my periods regularly Oct/Nov/Dec 2008 and then nothing until Feb 2009. Thought I was preggers, but NOPE. Again I waited nearly two months before another cycle, and again thought I was pregnant. Again NO. For the last year I have actually given up on the idea that I will have a regular period, as they are anywhere from 64 - 35 days apart. This makes it nearly impossible for me to determine when I am ovulating. As my husband and I have a "natural" take to getting pregnant, I really don't want to get scientific about it and my Dr. tells me this is natural after coming off the pill and will only offer to place me back on another type to regulate my cycle. Ummm, Hello? I WANT to get pregnant! I also have acne pretty crazy on my face, neck back and chest as did another girl who posted-happy to see it's not just me! I never would have switched if I knew I would have this much trouble. Anyone else have the same issues? And how long did it take for you to either A) get a regular cycle or B) get pregnant??
Shpammy - I started taking Yasmin in November of 2008. I experienced similar symptoms as everyone else: Mood swings, depression, headaches, MAJOR hair loss. I was only on it for a couple of months before I decided to completely go off of birth control, due to the side effects. It's been a year now and although most of the side effects have gone away, my hair still feels as though it's thinning! My hair used to be so thick ( I once hated my thick hair, now I wish I could have it back) and I'm wondering how long it will take for my hair to go back to it's regular cycle? A year seems like a long enough time to me! I'm terrified that my hair will just continue to fall out (although I'm noticing some short "baby" hairs growing all over my head.) Has anyone else been off of Yasmin for over a year and has your hair completely grown back yet??
Bcfree - I began taking Yasmin my freshman year of college and took it for 5 years. I have been off of it for 2.5 months so far. I had no reactions to Yasmin when I started (no weight gain, etc). Since being off of it however, I have noticed some things: increased sweat when working out, have to wash my hair more frequently, slight acne when I get my period, etc. For the most part I have been completely fine... first month period was 3 days late and 2nd month was almost a week early... but other than that nothing crazy. I do have hypoglycemia which I acquired on Yasmin, but don't think that caused it, as I still currently have it... HOPEFULLY I won't gain any way or lose any hair- I'm getting married in 5 months and that would NOT help the stress of planning!!! If I were to have these side effects, when would they probably start??

In regards to hair loss - I started yasmin for acne and within 2.5 months had severe hair loss. I stopped taking yasmin and my hair loss stopped with in 3 months, I had very thick hair and now it is very thin.
However 3 months later I have now started yasmin again, and the hair loss has started again, my shower is clogging up again. So I know the hair loss is definatly due to yasmin. However HAIR LOSS DOES STOP, so do not worry about it.
Laurajayne3 - Like many others I hadn't put any of my symptoms down to coming off Yasmin until as a last resort I searched and ended up here to find so many going through the same!
I came off Yasmin six months ago after being on it for a year, due to Migraine. I don't think I noticed any symptoms straight away to be honest then after the first 2 months I started to have bleeds every fortnight (dark brown blood, lighter than normal) for about 8/10 weeks. Now I haven't had a period since Novemeber and am waiting to see if it turns up this month.
As for symptoms, they really do mirror early pregnancy which led to me thinking I was going mad since all tests were negative. Greasy hair, heartburn, acne, tender breasts, enlarged montgomery glands (little bumps on nipple that weren't there before), headaches, nausea, facial hair and most of all weight gain! I'm not sure how much exactly but I've gone from UK size 8/10 - 14 (and that's feeling snug now). I look so pregnant that people offer me their seats on buses and ask when I'm due! I feel absolutely disgusting and will never mess around with my hormones again.
Any idea how long it will take to settle down?
Diawhi - hi ladies. I seem to be going through what every one of you is going through. I have been put on bcps since I was 16. Many times i went off of them or i switched and I'm sure that wreaks havoc on hormones. I am 25 now. I was on Yasmin for most of last year, stopping them in late August. Basically, because I had a couple hairs on my chin and just a few slight neck pimples, the gyn said take these. This was after I told him that i will not do bcps because of the horrible reactions i have to them ( I think they are all unhealthy for anyone to be taking anyways). He was really rude and said that i could leave the office and fill out the rX or not..
Yasmin at first was great. I didnt notice any weight gain, but i noticed a painful increase in my breasts. Around the July mark, which was 7 months into taking it, I started to swell and put on weight (water weight) and my breast became ENORMOUS! i mean, this was not something that you could contain in a bra and still be comfortable.. it was horrible.
Well i just finished the next pack and that was it. I never bothered going back to the GYN because he was rude and lacked compassion.
However, just a month ago, i notice my breasts hurting really bad like you get with your period but worse. they got big. I put on 20 lbs since stopping yasmin! I noticed from the time that i quit yasmin till now, i had this weird fat pooch as my stomach... which doesnt go away!
To make matters worse, my chin hair has increased. My lip hair that I have always waxed ( i have dark hair ) grows back quickly, my face is beautiful but my neck broke out in the worst pimply acne i have ever seen in my life! you wouldnt know it until i looked up exposing my upper neck!
This pill is awful.
i was also told by my endo a couple days ago based off of blood tests (done two months after stopping yasmin) and just the complaint of the neck acne that suddenly appeared and the chin hairs that increased that I have PCOS. but these are the same symptoms that everyone on this message board is complaining about as side effects from stopping this pill. Where do these doctor's draw the line? They have been no help at all.
Personally I think it's a huge wastebasket diagnosis. First of all, my blood tests were all normal! Second the only thing abnormal was my DHEA-S level, which was higher than it should be. My understanding is that PCOS deals with testosterone PRIMARILY. Dhea is not even a factor unless everything else is out of whack. I have normal periods, even if they are 33 day cycles. i am not going bald and i'm not obese.
so here i am. with no answers, and with horrible side effects after stopping this awful pill.
so what do all of you ladies recommend? personally im doing a detox to reset my body's natural systems. and i plan on picking up some yoga and eating very fresh, low-glycemic foods.
has anyone had success with allieviating these symptoms with Vitrex aka. chasteberry????????
Kr50 - Wow. It's a relief to see that so many other women are going through the same thing I am going through. At the same time, however, it makes me so angry that a pill like this is legal and approved by the FDA!!
After being on Yasmin for roughly two and a half years, I stopped taking it 6 months ago (beginning of October). After about 40 days, I did get one normal period (at the beginning of November). I haven't had a period since Novemeber and I am 100% for sure not pregnant (although I feel and look like I am! Ugh!). I do have occasional spotting with dark brown blood (randomly, every couple of weeks). I get excited because I keep thinking my period is finally here, but no such luck.
About two months after discontinuing Yasmin, I noticed my clothes starting to get tight, despite not changing my eating/exercise habits. I stepped on the scale, and realized I had gained 20 pounds in the last two months. It felt like it happened overnight. Since then, I have managed to put on another 5 pounds, but at least the drastic weight gain has come to a halt. Over the last few months, I have been restricting my calories and exercising like crazy, but can not seem to lose a single pound!! I have never had problems losing weight in the past.
I will never take birth control again, especially not Yasmin. Is there ANYBODY out there who knows how long it takes for the body to regulate itself back to normal?? How long until I resume normal periods, and how long until my body is able to let go of this hormonal weight gain?? This whole ordeal has been so depressing to me. I wish someone could help. My doctor tells me all I can do is "wait".
Clairebick - Hi, this is the second time I have tried to come off Yasmin and I have been off now since November 2009. I went back on last time as I got acne and it really got me low.
The acne has started to come back - it's awful on my chest and scalp...it is also spreading to my face now, especially on the chin. I hate it - I'm 34 - and it is scarring even if I don't pick them! (and I do sometimes) My skin is also awful greasy and I feel like I could tear myself apart sometimes.
Does it get better? Please say it does! I am determined to stick with it as I came off the pill to get back my sex drive.

Catsgomeow - So I have yet to get my period STILL. But i know im not pregnant. Since being off Yasmin ive noticed a similar side effect as the other women, which is greasy hair! Or just greasy skin in general. Also I haven't gained any wait but i still have a little bloating also the cramps went away. I am skeptical to start my new birth control pills(Microgestin) in fear of having more migraines or more symptoms. Does anyone have any personal experience with Microgestin or possibly switching from Yasmin to Mirco?
Kenken - hi ive been for yasmin more than a year i decided to quit last february..My Last period was jan.29 up to feb. 01 that suppose to be i wil take yasmin that date but as ive said i dcided to stop...Feb 02 i have sex with my bf without protection my friends telling me it was safe nothing to worry about...Month of march dont have my period after 1 week i p-test its negative...6 times i do pt result all negative...Again i waited Month of april but still did'nt come this morning i p-test again result nega ...i became bloated...have oily face...sometimes i feel back pain and gain more weigh im worrying bout my health...im scared and confused if anybody same my situation from the past pls tell and help me how to overcome this....im looking 4ward thankz so much...

I went off Yasmin (Or Yaz, its in Denmark so I don't know which it was here) and started on a non-hormone IUD. I have regular periods though heavy due to the IUD which I was warned about but now, 9 weeks after going off the pill I am getting annoyed by little things, angry (my husband called me Mr. Hyde yesterday) and am worried about the other symptoms. So far, I feel okay but not great. I am looking forward to having no synthetic hormones in my system.
Note though: while on the pill I was very depressed, constantly crying, thinking of suicide which scared me into NOT suicide thankfully, and extremely angry to the point of rage. I'm a normally controlled alpha female who is independent and strong and in control so that change was terrifying and I will never take birth control pills, patches, or whatever else has hormones in it again.

Misspinky - Hey there, I have been on Yasmin for 3 over years now and recently my hair loss has been so obvious that people around me cannot help but commented on it. I did not know what the problem was as I did not change my diet/lifestyle but now to find out that it could be the Yasmin.
For the last 6 months, my bathtub used to be clogged up once a week but of late it was clogged up just after one or two washes. I'm finishing up my last supply of Yasmin and thinking of going off it but at the same time also speptical of the "off-Yasmin" effect.

Mkd1002 - Was on Yasmin for 5+ years due to PCOS, the only side effect I had was high blood pressure, which was treated. In Feb. 2009, saw a different doctor in my gyn practice who took me off Yasmin suddenly due to high blood pressure. I developed severe depression and anxiety attacks, my sex drive went crazy (not a good thing, trust me), lost 2/3 of my hair, according to my long-term hairdresser (including about an inch of my hairline), started sweating all over, my arms became like big "guns" although I gained no weight...it was crazy. I was off them for a total of 5 months before realizing it was linked to my pill. I called my regular gyn, who flipped out that the other dr took me of the pill. He put me back on immediately.
Since then, I have several side effects from Yasmin I never had before. The anxiety/depression is less severe than not on it, but still there, and crippling. After about 1 month where the hair loss stopped, it has resumed (albeit slower than when off the pill, but still! I used to complain about how thick my hair was, but now I am petrified people will think I'm bald), I'm developing red spots on my face...it's crazy. How do I get off this pill, when the symptoms are only worse? I don't know what to do, and I'm angry that this pill seemed to mess up my body chemistry so badly.
I'm seeing an endocrinologist next week so we'll see what he recommends.
Bleuy1977 - I have been off of Yasmin for 3 months after taking it for 9-12 months. I switched from pill to pill and never had any problems. After going off of this one, I put on 8lbs in 3 weeks and have not been able to get rid of it despite 4-6 days a week at the gym and very healthy diet. I am a personal trainer, so I know my caloric intake and my caloric output. I had really bad emotional bouts, crying and depression, things that are not normal for me. I can only hope that all these symtoms are temporary and will subside before too long.

Stopped taking Yasmin in October 2009, put on 25 lbs and went without a period for 7 months, also suffered moderate depression. Could not get rid of a single pound despite no change in my previous diet and/or exercise, and spending hours upon hours at the gym.
BUT..... I just want to let you ladies know that things DO, in fact, get better. After 6 months of being off Yasmin, my weight slowly started decreasing, and this morning (7 months after stopping Yasmin), I FINALLY got my period!! What a sense of relief! So far, have lost 10 of the 25 pounds, so just 15 to go. Hang in there, girls!! =)
Spriz - I stopped yasmin in august. I have experienced all of the side effects mentioned above and having only had very short and very light and irregular periods for 8 months this month I am in agony cramps that imobilize me, nausea, sweating and very very heavy bleeding. It's killing me. Has anyone else had this for their first 'proper' period and if so please tell me they won't all be like this!

I was put on Yasmin as I has some cysts on my ovaries and the Gyno said it would clear it up, plus I never had regular periods anyways so thought it would be a treat to have BC and regular periods.
Well going on it the first month was fine, then this month after my having my period two weeks apart, massive cramps, breakout and gas...also have been sad and crying feeling the world is against me and especially my poor boyfriend who has just moved over from the US to be with this now 'phsyco woman with no sex-drive' (my words not his!)
So I'm ditching it. My body is feeling like my emotions and not my own and physically I'm not even game to look down as I'm so disconnected from myself.
Side effects coming off this, I think it all about the preparation. Getting a good cleanser, drinking water and a good green tea and bumping up the healthy foods (i'm celiac so pretty healthy as it is) should all assist in the transition.
WILD YAM LADIES. Search it and it should help with menstruation. Also WYLD for woman helps balance out with the right vitamins.
Putting a synthetic hormone into our bodies to trick it to thinking we are pregnant is just confusing for our bodies.
Natural Therapies are available to assist in the symptoms of coming off this and helping maintain a healthy natural cycle.

Kenken - *updated* after 3 months not getting my period bcoz taking off BC (YAZMIN) and pt results was negative 4 25 times.. I went 2 OB 4 check up she ask 2 have pt again but stil nega then i undergo ultra sound result was i hav hormonal imbalance my ob recomend me to take 5 tablets of provera 1 tablet per day... after five days i got my period i fell relieve but sad 2 say she ask me again to continue taking BC to regulate my menses...now i started going bck 2 normal and have a proper diet and excercise...
Lifeisgreat - Stopped yazmin a month ago and feel great. I have not experienced any side effects except all good things. My hair feels healthier and fuller and seems like its growing faster than when i was on it. My mood is much better im not an emotional wreck. And i have not gained any weight either but its only been a month so we will see. Also my skin is still clear and have my usual pimple here and there but nothing bad. I hope this helps to some that are worried about getting off the pill.
Southpacific - Hi I came off Yasmine beginning of March, so 4 months ago exactly. I went on yasmine initially for acne, but it didn't work, so I was eventually successfully treated with roaccutane. I continued to take yasmine though for birth control reasons. About 3 months after coming off Yasmine, my acne has returned as bad as it was pre roaccutane. I am VERY tired and very moody. I may have gained a few pounds. I have NEVER gained weight before. We are trying for a baby, but hubby and I have been talknig about putting that off so that I can undergo a second course of Roaccutane. The only positive thing is that my periods have been regular straight away. I think, though, that I would have preferred to have maintained clear skin :( I will NEVER go back on any BC pill again. It messes with out bodies big time.
It would be really nice to hear more positive stories from people whose bodies eventually calmed down. Good luck to everyone who is waiting it out :)
Jeepers88 - I took Yasmin for about 5 years with no problems other than lack of sex drive. About 2 years ago I stopped taking it to try for a baby with my husband. I had a normal period for 8 months after coming off Yasmin, but then my period just stopped coming. I thought I was pregnant. Several pregnancy tests later (all negative) I wondered what happened to my period. After 2 months of no period I went to my OBGYN. She gave me a pt which came back negative. She gave me provera and told me to take it for 10 days. Still no period so she told me to start taking Yasmin again and not stop taking it until my periods were regular again and I wanted to try for a baby. She also tested my hormone levels which were high for testosterone (?). About 7 months later here I am again. I stopped taking Yasmin, I am not pregnant, and I haven't had a period in almost 2 months. Not to mention I gained 10 pounds in 2 weeks since stopping Yasmin, my hair is falling out in large clumps, I am sweating way more than usual, and I have been very moody. I don't know what to do but start taking Yasmin again. It is sad to say I feel better while on it! It's frustrating because I am almost 30 and my husband and I would like to start a family.

I was on Yasmin for 3 yrs and stopped 3 months ago.I now have major hair loss, have indigestion, bloating and pins and needles in my arms. On the positive side my sex drive has improved and my periods resumed normally after stopping.
No one seems to reply as to how long it took for their hair to regrow? I can see some baby hair but this is also falling out!
If your hair has regrown please tell us how long it took to regrow?

Jamaica11 - This is the 3rd time i am attempting to come off Yasmin. The first time i gained over 15 lbs, had increased acne. The second time i almost lost all my hair.This time i am determined to stop.I feel like a slave to a pill which should just be preventing pregnancy.Will update you guys on how it goes.
Meray - i have been on yasmin for almost 2 years now. the first 8 months was perfect, i had no side effects, my hair grew quiciker, my skin became clearer. one side was i would get mld headaches, the pain would be throbbing on my eyes. months later I got an ear infection and went on antibiotics, this was a nightmare, the antiobiotics gave me thrush until now i get thrush monthly, its sooo itchy irrating and prevented me from having sex. apparently the pill increases bacteria in my body and the antibiotic triggered the bacteria. i had my periods 6 days ago and has the rost migrane ever i couldnt open my eyes, As of all of the above side effects I h ave decided to go off the pill as from 3 days ago and hope 4 d best
L1988 - I came off Yasmin about a month ago (was on it for a few years), not long after I came off I noticed that I had slight cramping, back ache, a sharp pain in my ovaries and i've been feeling like im starting my period for over a week now but nothing is coming, im also running to the bathroom a lot more and feeling sick in the mornings. I've taken a pregnancy test which is negative. Has anyone else had these symptoms since coming off the pill? I know they all seem to point to me being pregnant but the test is negative....HELP...could coming off Yasmin contribute to feeling like this?
Cursiveanna - I tried switching from Yasmin to Microgestin....the first day I took Microgestin, a horrible, two-day migraine began. I did not take it again.
I stopped Yasmin a little over three months ago. My skin & hair have been getting progressively greasier, and I have acne all over my forehead, behind my ears, and there is some on my chest, chin & butt (so gross). Apparently the acne is standard for coming off birth control--I am picking up an anti-biotic tomorrow that is supposed to kill the excess bacteria that's causing it.
Tw1 - I've been on Yasmin on and off for several years and have just come off it again to try for a third baby. For the past week I've been having cramping, pain in (what might be) my ovaries, low back pain, bloating and going to the toilet more frequently. I've had several negative pregnancy tests as well (and am sure I am not pregnant.) I can't help but think it's the Yasmin.

Nicnic23 - I have been off Yasmin for a month now too and I am experiencing this also. Worrying isn't it?! It's a weird feeling. Like everything inside is swollen and it hurts to lift my leg to put my shoe on! Please post if anyone else is experiencing this or if u have been to dr what did he say? Thanks.
Plblueeyes - Hi everyone! I stopped Yasmin 2 months ago(Nov 2010) and also experienced about 10 lbs weight gain. I was freaking out about it because I felt like shamu and constantly felt super bloated. I am happy to report that the weight gain has stopped and I have lost about 3 of the 10 lbs. I think most if it was water retention since Yasmin has a diuretic in it. The only think is I have had to work out really hard at least 4 times a week and really watch my calories to lose these 3 lbs. It feels like it's coming off alot slower than it should considering the work I am putting in. So hang in there! I really felt really sad about the weight gain and very out of control because it come on so fast but it did stop! I hope this helps!
Meghanconweezy - wow, this is crazy! i've been off Yasmin 21 for 13 months.
I didn't get a period from Jan 09 to Aug 09.
took numerous pregnancy tests through those months, seen doctors, and finally I got an appt to get an ultrasound done in Nov of 09.
I found out that I have PCOS now.
I have to maintain my diet, otherwise I have a higher chance at getting diabetes.
May have to take furtility pills to get pregnant. horrible, horrible.
Not sure if it's from Yasmin or not, but i'm assuming considering I was on it for 2-3 years, and before that I was on Marvilon 21 and that was fine.
Thinking about seeing a lawyer now .. hmm..
Helppanic - i went off yasmin a little over a year ago and just last summer i started having panic attacks when doing everyday activities they just hit me and its terrifying i went off dec of 09 it is now feb 2011 and i was wondering do these attacks ever stop ? and does anyone else have the same issue?

What happened when you got back on Yasmin? Did you symptoms go away? I have been off for one month and am experiencing the hair shedding already as well as chest acne. I am debating getting back on to prevent the hair loose. Any feedback on getting back on the pill would be appreciated!!!
Albyrose - I went off yasmine 3 weeks ago. Honestly I have NOT had any major side effects. I think the only explanation would be my healthy diet. I went on a dairy, gluten, sugar and meat free diet 4 weeks ago. I have lost some weight and feel amazing. I walk daily for 45 min. and drink a lot of water. My sleep has improved and my skin looks clean and healthy. Take good care of yourself and STOP this pill. You can do it!!
Luna76 - I have been on Yasmin for 5 years after my 2nd child to control my very heavy periods. I loved Yasmin while on it, I had no side effects whatsoever, like I did with other contraceptive pills (I tried many different ones). However I have stopped Yasmin 3 months ago (to concieve baby no.3) and have now got some terrible side effects. The first 2 months I was extremely emotional and very moody, which is not like me at all. After 4 weeks without it my skin got really bad, lots of tiny inflamed pimples. I also experience a lot of period-like cramping all through the month, sometimes it is so painful that it hurts when I sit down. It feels like something is inflamed down there at times. More side effects are that I am constipated (not like me either as I eat a very healthy diet), I feel very tired and I have also gained a few lbs. Reading all the other posts I find this quite disturbing. How long is this going to go on for???
Luna76 - Hi there, interesting that you are saying that with the thrush. I just put my horrible side effects post in and then read yours. I did stop the Yasmin 3 months ago, mainly because we are trying to have another baby, but I also had very bad thrush while on Yasmin for 6 months in a row. I got it every month a few days before my period was due. I never had thrush that bad before, however as soon as I stopped taking Yasmin the thrush went away and I haven't had it since. So good luck, hope, you don't feel too bad coming off it.
Scruff25 - hi, Ive been off Yasmin for two weeks if you include my period in that, i was told Yasmin had a high risk of deep vain thrombosis and was recommended to try a different BC when i read the side effects of the new pill me and my partner decided it was time to give my body a brake as Ive been on Yasmin for 7 years, im 26. the reason i have come across this sight is because like a lot of women hear im am experiencing lower tummy pains since having my period till now and that's only been 1 week but for that hole week Ive been having these pains, after reading through what you have all put im really worried, has anyone had anything positive from stopping the pill?? or has anyone got any tips so that if i do experience hair loss or mood swing (really don't want that to happen!!) hope someone will stumble across this and point out some tip :)
Trinishalom - Hey, I have been on Yasmin for about 3 yrs now for hormonal imbalance, PCOS. I never had a problem with Yasmin it worked great, my skin cleared up, my weight was controlled however facial hair remained the same. I noticed about a year ago that the facial hair had increased and I have greasy hair and skin. I want to come off Yasmin simply because I am fed up of taking it.
I didn't take my tablets constantly for about a week, it has been 3 weeks since my last period and I got my period today. I think these birth control pills really screw up your system. I also had some hair loss but never thought it was Yasmin until reading all your comments. Anyone heard anything from their doctor since stopping Yasmin??
Saraht - I'm 42 and had been on Yasmin for about 5 years and stopped 2 months ago. I now seem to get a new spot every day, I am so fed up with it, I'm 42 and should have grown out of getting spots by now! Some of the spots I get are huge and I feel awful and don't want to leave my house. I had years and years of clear skin and now have spots and dry patches on my face. My skin is also very oily and I have noticed some facial hair is darker. I wish I had never started taking Yasmin.
Scruff25 - UPDATE: well its only been two week now since stopping Yasmin and after reading all your comments id like to put something positive down, the first week i had lower tummy pains that's why i stumbled across this worried sight, however the tummy pains has stopped and i have no visible spots or acne or skin problems, and my hair isn't falling out and my mood hasn't changed, all in all i feel just the same normal me, however after reading this sight i started taking 'evening primrose oil' that helps with health skin & normal menstrual health and supports normal healthy mood so maybe this is why im OK im not sure. not due my first period since stopping Yasmin for another two weeks yet so i will let you know how i get on. hope this helped anyone who is thinking of stopping Yasmin feel a bit more at ease than i did :)
Carolannp - I have this too! been off it for a month, its pain seems mainly on one side... been to the doc twice and he did urine test and a few other checks and said he didnt know wht it was... iv felt uncomfortable around my womb ovaries area for over a week and its really getting me down! ;-(
Nicnic23 - Hi, just thought I'd report back to let people know that the pains I was so worried about do go. It took a good couple of months but I have now been off Yasmin for about 3 and a half months and I am now pain free. Its the acne I am cursed with now that is the problem! I went on the pill for acne about 15 years ago and so kinda forgot I have hormonal acne. I am remembering now!! I dont think I have any of the other side effects, my weight has levelled itself out at a healthy level. Keep persevering girls. All will be well in the end. x
Goldteapot - I have been on Yasmin for nearly 6 years. I was first prescribed it due to heavy periods. After gaining nearly 40 pounds, I am supposed to stay on it due to symptoms of PCOS (high testosterone, facial hair). However, my periods were always regular, though heavy. I am now convinced that Yasmin is the reason for my spike in testosterone because I became obese! (it;s a symptom of obesity too). Well I decided to just give it up and see what happens. In the first few weeks I gained 7 pounds, which I know is water since I excercise regular and eat good, feel all stiff in the morning and hard to get out of bed, and acne. I'm hoping this will go away in 3 months or so, I will keep you posted!
Goldteapot - I forgot some other symptoms after being off it: extreme constipation in the first week and now frequent and loose bowel (it's been a month almost), greasy face/hair, some hair loss in shower, sore nipples, some cramping. I have read that these are because of the hormone withdrawl, and should go away. I am due for a period in a few days. I am less tired than I was on the pill, so I think this a good choice.
Lg - I have been on Ocella for three months because of Polycystic cyst . The side effects where horrible including severe acid reflux, sore breast and a emotional reck. Im hoping to get off soon so that my husband and I can start a family. I hope i get pregnant soon after stopping.
Tammyuk - I was on Yasmin for several years.
COMING OFF : I felt felt fine in the first 3 weeks coming off it. I would wear no make up and skin would still look clear... HOWEVER from then on my skin and hair has been more oily and 2.5 months later I am 55kg, I was 51-52 kg before, giving me 6-9pound weight gain. I am hoping this will level out soon after 4 months. Though this also includes christmas weight. YASMIN IS AN ANTI - BLOATING PILL. I think our bodies get used to the diuretic effect and so upon stopping it, we pile on water.
Today... a customer at work asked if I was pregnant because I had put on quite a bit of weight. At first it didn't bother me but now I am a bit upset as I have never had children and am not pregnant.
No hair loss for me yet, nothing more than usual (I dont think) and hope I do not get this.
Today (after pregnant comment at midday) I started a diet. I think basically I am gonna have to be very careful with what I eat, diets usually work okay for me but now I think this is gonna be hard work getting this weight gain off. I might cut my calorie intake to a third to get rid of this swollen-ness! :(

Blossompossum - I know that most of these posts were done over a year ago but hopefully some people still check this site. Alot of people are saying they were on Yasmin then stopped taking it & later the got diagnosed with PCOS. I have been diagnosed with PCOS & my doctor has told me to start taking Yasmin. He said that there is an chemical in it that makes hair grown on your head & not on your face. I cant remember the name of it - ill have to ask him again. He also said that this chemical was given to men, older men (years ago) when they had swollen hands & feet - but later noticed that these man stopped growing facial hair & grew hair on there head.
He told me to take Yasmin for 3 months and then go back, if my PCOS eg facial hair and hair loss isnt any better he will increase the strength of the tablet.
Although I dont understand how Yasmin will work because PCOS is caused because my body cannot process insulin effectively. When insulin levels in the blood are too high, the ovary reacts by producing more testosterone. This triggers a cascading effect of other conditions like excess hair growth, scalp hair loss and acne.
So i need something that will stop my body from making testosterone. I know my diet will play a factor & a low GI diet wil help but it wont be enough.
Does anyone have any ideas?
And the people that have PCOS what medication were they given? How long untill they say a change?

I was on Yasmin for the birth control, and had no side effects to speak of, a very happy pill-popper. If only I could go back, I would never choose to take it! Pills wreak havoc on our systems, and who knows how long it will take now for me to get my balance back. I have just recently read about the pill affecting our gut flora -- if I had known this, I would have thorugh 1,000 times before going on it -- I am now dealing with ongoing stomach pains; they seem to be all over, and come and go with no real pattern. This has been happening about the same time that I went off the pill. I make my own kefir, eat quite healthy, and have moderate exercise. I may have a bit of weight that is creeping on, but hopefully I can resolve that quickly. For anyone that wants to try some natural supplements, B vitamins, chasteberry (vitex), and dong quai (angelica sinensis) are some good vitamins and herbs for hormonal support. You can maky your own tinctures for much cheaper -- soak the herb in alcohol, 1:1, for 2 weeks, strain and you are ready. I'm on dong quai right now, the kefir gives me B vitamins, and I have a tincture of Vitex preparing as we speak.
I have also experienced an increase in hair loss -- but know that this is realted to B vitamins. The pill does a lot to our body, mainly a whole host of nutritional defficiencies, so even if we are eating great, it may not be enough. I quit after reading the book "The Pill", [link removed]

My periods have been light and quick (not the ssme as before the pill), and semi-regular at abouit 5 weeks (again unusual, as I was like clockwork at 28 days before the pill...sigh...)

Nothappyjan - Hi, I have taken Yasmin for 2 years.
Went off Yasmin 50ish days ago, still no period (got the withdrawal bleeding in the initial week)
Doctor said we will test for PCOS next week if it's still not there.
So far my symptoms are:
Severe Bloating (not sure if it is weight gain but my pants don't fit), mild cramps, sore belly, HUGE tingling boobs, some acne type pimples (this was the reason I went on pill to clear my skin), greasy hair and skin, sweats, headaches, nausea, loss of appetite. I haven't noticed any hair loss yet but I did get some at the start of taking Yasmin. If I had known this was going to happen I would have tried another type of medication to clear up my skin.
I am 36 and I will be beside myself if that acne comes back it depressed the shit out of me!!
I will bookmark this page and report back in a month!!!!
