FOLLOW UP to ZPAK REACTION
I received a few emails and responses regarding my extremely adverse reactions to Zpak. After about 4 years of getting more and more sick and weary from what doctors thought was a negative reaction to Zpak, I had a fever that swelled my ankles and wrists and had me unable to walk or tolerate the pain. I went in for bloodwork and it was finally discovered that my previous negative reaction to the antibiotics and also further sickness was due to C Pneumonia (Chlamydia Pneumonia -- thought not so much related to the STD). Traditionally your body will not create antibodies for C Pneumonia so it won't show up in your bloodwork unless something (like a fever) is happening. However when you take any antibiotics (but especially a 5 day crush like Zpak) the virus releases a mass toxin which can have a multitude of severe side effects. It can lead to arthritis and MS. I still have a hiatal hernia and some leftover nerve issues, but things are slowly improving after I was on a heavy two month-long dose of a combination of Doxyciclin and, I think, metrocyclin? Something like that. My reactions to antibiotics were never as severe as that first reaction to the Zpak, presumably because the various antibiotics I was taking over the years had some effect on the virus. ... more »

Not saying this is the answer for everyone, but if you're having severe reactions to this or any other antibiotic, it *could* be C Pneumonia. You can catch it from someone coughing near you. It won't show up in your bloodwork, but my advice would be to wait until you have a fever and then rush into the doctor for bloodwork immediately following. I'd probably be bed-ridden and close to dying by now had I not done it.
Hope this helps someone!!
Good luck!
